As some of you may know I work for Circuit ******, and let me tell you the name doesn't lie. Im trying to get back into school but I won't be able to drop back down to part time cause I make to much and Im a lead of the tech. department. (Hah, $11 dollars is hardly to much). Basically the places has royally pissed me off for many reasons and I really need to leave.

So, someone suggested I could work at a golf course (Tampa area has some nice ones) and that you get paid like minimum wage but tips are nice. It'd be a good job cause it'd be 6 am to 2 pm from what Ive been told, which would allow me time to go to school. It would also give me flexibility to work as many or as few hours as I needed Im sure. I don't have a huge amount of bills, but I don't really want to take a massive paycut. Anything under $10 per hour wouldn't be satisfactory. So anyone had experiences with golf courses? Good/bad? Any other suggestions. Im fvcking sick of retail and want out... NOW.

The only thing that kept me working at a golf course in the day was the perk of free golf. So unless you are hardcore about golf, the menial labor sucks unless you can swing a job as a starter or golf professional.

You could only get tips if you were caddy. If you work from 6-2 then you will be working on the grounds crew. I hope you enjoy working long hours in hot weather. Ew in Tampa you could have Paspallum greens. Lot of mowing most of the week. Good luck man.

Golf pro is a crappy job in most circumstances. Unless you have the connections to get hooked up into a really A-list club it's not a job I would recommend to anyone. The PGA of America churns out pros like a couple of horny hamsters churn out babies. There are a lot more pros than jobs for them, so the pay sucks. Add in to that the prosect of giving lessons to old men, older ladies, spending 10 hours a day in the proshop selling sweaters and buckets of rangeballs or sitting behind a table running the membr-guest tournament. There's probably not a single person in a country club that gets to play less golf than a junior pro. I've been offered a job as a teaching pro twice and they don't make drugs strong enough to get me to say yes. I'd rather be a caddy. They can make more and still play free on Mondays.

Working at a golf course is too general a phrase to be able to answer how good it is. It depends on what you're doing and where you're doing it. The groundskeeper positions can pay well if you work your butt off. Starter and ranger are easy, but boring and don't pay much. A hot cart girl can make good tip money, but don't expect to get a job where fat cats toss $100 bills at you for cleaning their shoes. It's not going to happen.

What job at a golf course? Starter? Caddy? Grounds Crew?

I worked grounds crew at a private club for a few years back in highschool/early college. We worked 5am to 1pm, and started at $7.00/hour. Aside from waking up so early, I loved it. We would mow the greens/tee boxes in the morning, and in the afternoon we would fvck around on the course trimming, spreading mulch, etc...

If you know alot about golf, then go and caddy at an EXPENSIVE course. You will make huge $$$ on tips. The caddys at our country club usually made $50-$100 a bag, and usually worked 2-3 rounds a day, and up to 2 bags a round.

On the other hand, if you caddy at a cheap club, and cant give any golf advice, then you will make like $3 a bag.

Cant speak for being a starter, but i dont think they make tips.

I worked at a Club as a kid(13-19). Started out as a tee starter, and then in the pro shop as a cart/range/club storage/club repair guy, then assitant pro. The hours were long and the pay sucked and you worked all weekends and holidays. But as a kid playing HS and college golf it gave me what I needed; countless hours of free play and cart priveliges. Plus a life experience I will never forget (think Caddyshack:) )

My littel brother works as a bag boy/caddie and makes pretty good times. He always has a wad of cash on him. He works at a pretty nice course with a lot of good tippers. I would guess that he averages $3 to take their bags and much more to caddie. I can't remember exactly but it was pretty decent. Lots of pro hockey players and celebs to meet too. Only works 4 hours a night during school and makes enough green to save for college.

Huh? 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. are the busiest times for a golf course, why would he be working on the grounds crew?

Anyway, my sister-in-law used to work at a golf course - one big perk is that she could play for free. That there is worth a dollar an hour.

Man I wish I could say anything under $10 an hour wasn't satisfactory when I was in college!

A friend of mine was a junior pro for a while. The combination of hours and low pay got to him - he had to be there at 6 am when everything got started, and stay til 6 pm or later when the last golfers were getting off the course.

I think he's selling insurance now. ;)

Happens to a lot of them. Being a golf pro is one of the worst jobs on earth for a person that likes to play golf.

You blew up a groundhog?

We blew up quite a few things:eek: but I don't think a groundhog was on the list:)
But we did have a wacky greenskeeper much like Bill Murrays character, and many of the exploits of the members were very similar to the movie. And much like Danny in the movie I had a serious crush on a waitress who worked there, but in my case I married her and she still lets me hang around 26yrs later;). I also life guarded at the pool and we had an incident similar to the "Baby Ruth" fiasco in the movie. As you can see I have a special attachment to that movie, when it first came out I went three times in opening week.

My dad used to work at a golf course..when we first moved to the US. I don't really remember what his job was but i remember going there to hang out sometimes and he'd drive us around in the golf carts. Perhaps it was after hours..perhaps I was too little and my mind is making up this memory..but yea.

Not much help..but it's fun to remember my maybe-made-up-memory..heh.

I worked at a golf course durring the summer driving the drink cart.
It was one of my most favorite jobs. I got great tips, got to be outside got to drive the drink cart.

I know that those are coveted jobs where i live. I also know that many kids really enjoy being catties as well.

I am not much help but it is a lot of fun, plus, you can get free golf!
