Anyone here ever used eBay for selling cars?

My Tesla Model S is coming next month, I have a car to sell in before I can purchase the tesla.

The first one is a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. For the past two months I've had it consigned at a dealer, but I must have chosen the slowest dealer in Denver since there has been any movement. Also it seems like the used car dealers in that area has a lot of Wranglers for sale so it could very an oversupply issue right now. However, the dealer did tell me they get a lot of inquiries from out of state customers (but they don't like dealing with out of state people)

So it got me thinking, that maybe I'll just put my Jeep on ebay... Does anyone here have any experience good or bad they would like to share?

Why not Craigslist? eBay takes a hefty chunk of every sale. Just insist on guaranteed funds- cash, cashier's check, etc.

This.

Craigslist or Jeep Forums. People who really want to buy a nice jeep will 1) fly in and drive it home or 2) ship it to them. Don't forget to mention that you will work with them to help them ship (at their cost of course) and/or maybe pick them up at the local airport or whatnot.
 
Yep. I sold a car to an out of state buyer a few years ago. Luckily I lived close to an airport at the time. He flew in at 11am or so and he was headed home by 3pm. Coincidentally we had the same bank so we just did an account transfer. Quick and painless.
 
Yea eBay is set fee for cars. I have sold some that way and worked fine. Just take a LOT of pictures and do not lie or cover up anything.

I would post on craigslist for a week then post to eBay after a week to see what you can do. Set the reserve at the lowest you will take, not what you want. Best to sell now then hold for months and maybe get less.
 
Sold a couple auction style on ebay. Got more $$ than I expected. Seems like less of a hassle than craigslist. I got fewer tire kickers and strange emails. I did local pickup only. I'm not shipping a car even if it is easy.

I've had decent luck selling via craigslist too, just seems to take a bit longer.

I'd meet at a bank to do any transaction. Cash you can deposit it, and its the bank's problem if its fake, or you'll know right then. Cashier's check you want to do at the issueing bank as only they can confirm right then that the check is valid. Your bank may take upto 30 days to verify and you can be out the money with a fake check. Last car I sold privately was all cash.

This has been pretty much my experience. Have sold three vehicles on ebay...all worth the listing fee/final fee ebay charges due to selling prices of those. I've sold maybe a dozen or so on Criagslist. It can take a while, lots of false starts/emails/etc., but have yet to be unsuccessful with using Criagslist. Just takes time.
