Anyone here ever use this xbox360 trackball controller?

It looks preety cool and seems like a great idea.

People seem to be happy in the ebay feedback.

Price is a little steep, but I'm looking for something to kick my brothers butt with.

i'm assuming you can flick the trackball like you can a mouse. if not, it's worthless.

i've played FPS's with a select few trackball players that could kick my ass all over the place. you can completely mimic any mouse movement, it just takes a totally different style. i think the 'instant 180' is still best done with a mouse, but these guys made it look easy with the trackball. granted, that was a much larger ball that they manipulated with like three fingers.

(thats what she said)

Maybe more accurately, but since it would have to emulate the stick that its replacing, it couldn't move your aim any faster than pushing the stick to the limit.

oh wait i'm retarded.

i see what you mean. the xbox stick is probably a 5v circuit (usb is 5v, right?). then the pair of potentiometers are probably set up with, say, max left/down at .5v and max up/right at 4.5v; all the xbox knows is 'maximum speed in 'x' direction,' and no modification of the input device (since it just mods a voltage) can result in faster speed.

...so what are these companies making mouse/KB converters doing? can you get around the reponsiveness issue with additional hardware and programming?

From what I've heard, those perform terribly compared to actual KB/M.

From what I googled so far , it seems they perform faster and more accurate than a stick but not quite up to mouse standards, somewhere in between.

They have a calibration button to calibrate the sensitivity, so I dont think speed is an issue. You will not be doing 180's like you can with a mouse though.

I use a Logitech trackball for my PC fps gaming,so this might be easier for me to get used to.

Do want

Been using trackballs since the original macintosh. I'm unbeatable in UT2004.

They lost me at $120. $60 maybe.

Trackball gamer here. That controller looks awesome.

But, after some thought, Ross Ridge is right. Unless there's some way to increase the sensitivity beyond the maximum threshold already provided, it will feel a little restricted. The Xbox 360 controller probably has a built-in hard limit.
