So has anyone here actually tried to become an actor in Hollywood? Just curious to hear experiences and funny stories.

I think I will like to be in Hollywood one day. I don't want to be a big name actor, just a small time actor, but who is in a lot of movies playing small roles. I think the stereotypical Middle Eastern roles will fit me perfectly, such as the Indian geek who is trying to hook it up with white women and inventing robots that get hit by electricity and come to life, the Bangladeshi 7-11 clerk who is a hardcore party dude after hours dancing his way to the American dream, the Pakistani cabbie who can count "1 minute.. 2 minute..3 minute...", the weird Syrian neighbour next door who dresses funny and stares at people or something like that.

I think I would make a good stereotype.

Make some calls and see if they're doing a remake of Short Circuit. ;)

You should start as an extra in local films/tv shows, find out about the filming process.

Nope, had a friend from high school try it out though. He ended up getting some stupid "extra" work on some sitcom a few times just in the background but thats it. Ended up being roomates with some mulitmillionaire professional boxer who was rarely in town.

I moved to Hollywood 6-7 months ago. You take the good with the bad, but I realized not too long ago that I have begun to love it here. If you dont want to make movies I dunno why you would wanna live here though, heh. It is definatley surreal, almost a completley different planet from the rest of the country/world. It is definatley not for everyone, not for the vast majority of people probably. Chances are you will not last here long, or you will just give up and move back eventually.

I am not an actor, however. You sound like you have an idea of a niche to fill and it sounds like you might be lucky in that. there are lots of people that do that exact thing (character/stereotype act), although i dunno if they survive solely on that.

I guess what Im saying is be sure this is what you want to do, really...not to be cool, not to be a movie star, not as a hobby or passing fancy, but because you really feel it inside. You will come here and see people smash and piss on your dreams and ambitions every day, make you feel like you are nothing, an ant among millions not worth a second glance. If you come here for a wrong reason, it wont last and you will give up, with several thousand dollars less then you came with.

and again....I'm not even an actor!! Actors (Cattle) have it worst in this town, you are just flesh and meat to most. They get screwed over and heartbroken on a daily basis.

haha, from reading this you would think that I am some bitter old thespian who moved and left hollywood long ago. I love it here, I'm just being real. You need to be too. Anyone can just say or fantasize, but it is a whole different thing entirley to actually do it. just be sure..
