Anyone here ever tried real pemmican?

Wondering how it tastes. I'm not talking about Pemmican brand beef jerky, or even Tanka Bites which are basically buffalo jerky mixed with cranberries. I'm talking pemmican made with cranberries, 50% jerky, and 50% tallow.

On backpacking trips or bicycle tours I stuff my face with as much high calorie food as possible and still can't keep up with calories spent. I can see why they'd use that in days past and why it would still have a specialized use.

Not sure I'd want to eat something that is 50% tallow. Sounds gross. There's a reason it was considered survival food even way back in the day.

REAL pemmican is at best an acquired taste...rendered fat, meat and berries...I've eaten it several times, made it a few times...not recommended for squeamish people...but, it'll sustain you when you need something in the belly.
