My parents were in town and my Dad was itching to give a hand with the yard work, as he was doing the weed eating, the weed eater head broke apart and flung bits of hard plastic against the side of my house, as a result I now have two good size holes in my vinyl siding and no clue how to "fix" it.

I'd love to make it look good enough that it's not an eye sore down the road when I go to sell this place, but if nothing else I figured I could just plug it up with a bunch of silicon.

Has anyone here found a easy and affordable DIY solution for repairing/patching vinyl siding?

The holes (tow of them) are roughly 3 inches by 1.5 inches in size.

If you have more siding that you can patch with just cut it out and put the new stuff on top and silicone the edges.

If not then get a silicone that is close to the same color and fill in.

The hardest part will be finding the matching siding. Hopefully it is what is sold at your local big box store. However, there must be 100+ manufacturers of siding. I spent a month and probably drove 500 miles before I ran across a guy that used to work at the place that made my siding.

Getting the siding off and putting it on is very easy. There's a tool they sell that grabs a hold of the siding to peel the hooked edge off. $5 at Home Depot

You'll probably want to take siding off an inconspicuous place and put the already faded siding where it'll show, then put your new stuff on to replace that.

No one ever figured out what caused this. As best as I can figure the sun glancing off my glass top patio table did it.

It is not worth replacing the piece of siding if the holes are in an inconspicuous spot. Purchase a matching piece of siding and cut a patch that is bigger than the holes and silicone it in place from behind.

Replace the damaged siding panel/s if it is in plain sight.

Thanks!

I've seen siding like that on some of the homes in my neighborhood actually.

Nothing like that on mine though.

I am not a fan of vinyl, I'd much rather have Hardi Plank if money were not issue.
