anyone here ever had a mole removed?

i have a mole on my lower back, at the place where the 'elastic band' of the boxer goes.....
usually i have to move my band either above it or below it... else it'll get irriated being pressed by the band.

i notice it look slightly larger recently... i think i should get it removed and check for skin cancer.


now... how do they do it ? can a regular doctor perform this? is it quick and painless?

should i just clip it off with a nail clipper? (ha ha i heard it grows back)
 
I had one taken off my back. It's no big deal at all.

Just went to their office. They numbed the area and snip-snip-snip. Left a pretty bad scar in my case, though. I had a dermatologist do it, I think that's the norm.
 
i've had 4 moles removed. They arent a big deal. You should definately get it checked out by a DERMATOLOGIST. Dont go to a regular doc, the derm will know exactly what to do and probably can remove it during the same visit.
Removal
First they clean it w/ alcohol, then inject it w/ a needle w/ some type of anistheptic. After it is good and numbed, the doc will slice it off w/ a knife (small, like exacto). Then he will cauderize the area, which is gross b/c you can smell your flesh burning (nasty smell). The spot will be red for a couple years probably, but much better than skin cancer. Keep in mind, it doesnt hurt, except if you are a wuss and the needle hurts you. Good luck

I had one removed just a few weeks ago. The Physicians assistant did it. She just put a few drops of liquid nitrogen on it. It stung just a little but did not hurt. After about a week it just fell off and left very little scaring.

There are a lot of good sites that will help you determine if it is dangerous but the best is to let a professional look at it. If it is bothering you, get it taken off, it?s no big deal.
 
I've got a huge hairy mole on my arm (not huge, but about 1/4 inch across) 😀

I've been wanting to get it removed for a long time now...but I hate needles, and the knife would definately make me quezzy. And I don't know if I would like a big red scare on my arm....ick

 
i guess i'll have to get a referal from my doc to a dermatologist....

i found some more moles in my armpit where there weren't before... i noticed because of the intense itchness recently , i thought it was the new brand of deodorent.....

 
I had a 2" birth mark removed off my arm last December - the scar is still red and its itchy as hell!

Probably not a good idea, a dermatologist should do it so they can send it to the pathologist to check it for cancer.

I have had several removed in the last couple of years to check for cancer. I had some basal cell (cancer) removed from my cheek two years ago so now I get them checked often by a DERMATOLOGIST. BTW I am now 36...
 
Yeah, I've had a couple removed. I had mine done by a plastic surgeon when I was younger.

The kind of cancer you're worried about is called melanoma. Typically its seen arising from older moles, as you may have suspected. The warning signs are changes in pigmentation, shape (changes in border) & height of the mole, bleeding, ulceration and crusting. These will usually come on over months.

If you are worried about it, go to a dermatologist and let them have a look. IF they are suspicious they'll do an excisional biopsy or punch biopsy and send it off for pathology. The first line therapy for these things is cutting them out, but melanoma is still pretty rare.
