I knew a guy that made a few carb bowls (cannabis pipes) that way. Neat stuff. (the bowls)

I'm in my 4th year at York so I don't have time or the finances to really start it in a program, I guess I'll look around for some simple lessons or an introduction.

My upstairs neighbors from last year were blowers, and they had a shop set up in an old garage out back.

It's expensive (kiln, glass, tools, torches, tanks) but awesome. I spent many night out there watching them blow beads and pipes and even dildos haha.

The glass shop in my town recently closed down because there weren't enough business, and they were charging $750.00 CAD for 4 days class.

There isn't a lot of money to be make from glass art, and the steep learning curve + cost is highly inhibited to the average interlopers.

<-- would love to spend some time at Pilchuck if I have the time & money (last time I check, 1 week workshop at Pilchuck cost $7500.00 USD).

Thanks for the link, I'm going to check them out for sure.

My dad used to do it for quite a few years, unfortunately he's in BC and I'm in Toronto at the moment, but he will be the first actual person I talk too.

I wouldn't want to do it as a primary source of income or anything, but what a damn cool hobby.

I was interested when I watched the presentation at the Corning Museum of Glass, but looked like to have the main furnace and "Glory Hole", along with all of the other equipment, would make it a very expensive hobby.

I have, though nothing very fancy.

But it seems Eugene Oregon is the mecca for glass blowers.

I have no idea why... ;)

equipment is expensive but it is a one time cost. Fuel is the killer because the kiln can not be turn off unless it is for maintenance/rebuilt, other wise the bricks/structural of the kiln will crack due to the cooling process.
