Was just wondering. If anyone had any expereiences purchasing a car from Ebay. Many cars are selling for much lower than their private sellers price could it be a scam? eventhough their from dealers?

RGN bought one a while back, got a good deal and a great car. But yeah, probably not a typical occurrence.

They might be selling for less because of the high shipping costs if you're not in the area. There's also the general uncertainty of buying from the internet and not being able to inspect/drive the car personally before buying.

I think if the dealership is reputable and has excellent feedback, you can probably find some good deals.

I bought my Olds Aurora on Ebay, and it was a very easy process. Make sure you check their feedback and call them and ask anything you can think of about the car.

My boss bought one not too long ago. The seller was in Houston, and his father-in-law was just down the road, so he had dad go take a look at it. Seemed like a good deal until one of the main belts broke. In the middle of nowhere. At night.

My best friend's girlfriend in Walnut Creek bought a 95? 96? C320 from egay. They arranged to have it checked out by a mechanic there in texas. got the car for a few grand lower than average price was in their area. car was in an accident, but in perfect shape, repaired to MBZ spec. so far, been a great car.

I am actually a car dealer and sell most of my cars on ebay. I've only been doing it for a few months, just graduated college, but so far it's going pretty well. The reason dealers sell cars on ebay is because of the quick turn around time, the time between buying and selling a vehicle. One car I bought on a Thursday and sold on ebay by Sunday and the person flew in the following weekend to pick up the car. If anyone is interested in looking at the cars that I sell here they are:

Explorer

Daewoo Nubira

Grand Am

My suggestions for buying a car on ebay would be to watch yourself because there are some people looking to screw people. I actually just had someone interested in the explorer say that they bought a car on ebay and spent $700 to fly in to pick it up and the car was a piece of crap, all rusted and not represented right. But if done right you can buy a car for very cheap.

I bought a 94 Miata off ebay for $5400. Had to spend about $1600 in repairs on the GD thing though. :( So yeah.... I got ripped off.

I bought a 91 Nissan 300zx 2+2 on Ebay for 6500 with 77k miles on it...
turns out, the odometer didn't work whenever it didn't feel like working...so i'm thinking my car has about 100k miles... had to buy a new odometer for $50
The car didn't have 60k service done, so i had to shell out 800 bucks to replace the timing belt, water pump, accesory belts, fuel pump, tranny fluid, etc...
But you gotta be ready to shell out some money to get the car fixed after you buy it so it wasn't too bad...

The simple rule to follow is that you don't ever buy a used car sight unseen. If an Ebay listing led me to a car in my local area, I would arrange to inspect and test drive the car, and then if I wanted it, I would place a bid.

Two best places to get used car

1. Trade in cars at dealerships, they dont wanna deal with towing them to use car dealership and pay fee. they rather get hard cash for it. you can test drive it and inspect in person

2. Used car auctions, where used dealers get their cars

A few years ago my father bought my Mazda MX6 on eBay and flew one way to Dallas to drive it back to Houston. I drive that car daily and it's great. An excellent eBay experience.
