Anyone here ever been to a tanning salon? *CANCER DEATH UPDATE*

I've spent a lot of time outdoors so far this year, and am starting to really appreciate the tan on my arms and shoulders. So now i'm thinking of paying a visit to a tanning salon and getting the rest of my body to look that good. I've never been though, so i have a few questions for those that have:

1) How much time do you spend there per visit, and how many visits does it take to get a REALLY dark tan?
2) What's the recommended/safe number of visits per given period of time?
3) How much does this cost? And how do you pay? Per hour, per visit, etc?
4) Do tanning beds usually tan from all sides, or do you have to turn to tan back/chest?
5) I want an even tan, so how do i go about getting it a tan nude?

UPDATE: How about eye protection? Won't i get lines if i wear sunglasses? Or can i just keep them shut?

UPDATE 2: odds of dying from skin cancer: 0.003%

Pro Tip: Tanning salons have phone numbers and working phones. Sometimes they have real live people working there.

1. Normally starting out 10... to a max of 20 after a few days or week. It depends upon your complexion and genes. I tan easily, so only need about two weeks to get a good tan.
2. 1 visit per 24 hours.
3. I had unlimited minutes per month for 39 I believe. You can buy minutes packages... ie 500, 1000, 1500 that don't expire or some that do expire. YMMV.
4. Well they do, but you still need to turn... you have to hold up your arms in some. Level 2 and 3 beds are better, and stand beds can help if you start to get an uneven tan.
5. I recommend you spend at least a week in your tighty whities(buy some if you don't have any) and then try 5 minutes each visit in the nude. I never got burnt that way, but I was tanning in the nude after about 3 days. Don't forgot about a sock for your Johnson.

My dad bought my mom a tanning bed for their anniversary about 4 years ago so I get to use it whenever I want to. I'm not a big fan of it though, I usually get tan enough by doing simple yard work.

You forgot

6) How long before my skin get all wrinkled
7) When will I die of skin cancer

Bah, I started going right away in the nude w/no sock at all. Got a nice tan "down there" but I'm sure none of you guys wanted to know that.
Oh- and the place I went was standing beds, like 10 tans for $25 I think. GF bought me it, I think she was trying to tell me somthing....=)

Forget getting a dark tan. You age prematurely and skin cancer is a major risk. All those tan babes from the seventies and early eighties now look like 80 year old hags, if they haven't died of skin cancer yet.

Is all that worth a tan?

Let me put it this way: Yearly tanning is far, Far, FAR more dangerous to your looks and health than smoking.

Would you smoke if you thought it looked cool?

No sock = extremely bad idea, if you ever want to have kids. Which in your case may not be a bad idea 😉

Eh? I can see a sunburn risk, but sterility?

Anyway, tanning in MODERATION is not a bad thing.

I actually had it recommended by a dermatologist. He basically said that because I never spent any time outside I needed to get some UV elsewhere, & tanning wouldn't hurt anything.

I finally got around to trying it three weeks ago, & my skin is MUCH improved. Should have done it 3 years ago when he suggested it.

ouch, buuuurrrrrn (no pun intended)

Hmm, I had never heard of that before, although it seems like for kids the area that would most need to be protected would be the balls...but thats just my guess from HS health class, so I could be wrong.

Getting a dark tan (what Krassus wants to do) is not "tanning in moderation." Yes, some sun is good in extreme moderation. Getting any kind of a signifigant tan is NOT good. A tan is evidence your skin is being damaged by too much UV light.

Yeah, and my ass got sooo sun burned ouch!

Irish peope do pale skin really well,we do sun burn even better!

Skin cancer is not caused only by the sun. It's a combination of what you eat also.
Mainly it's only an American problem.

Wonder why there is no skin cancer in Africa and Asia were indigenous people spend 8-10 hours in the sun everyday?
