So I was given a pool table over a year ago and I finally have the room to put it up. Problem is, its in pieces. I would imagine its fairly difficult to put it together... but really I'm not sure. Anyone have any experience with this type of thing?

I've done it in the past, it's not that hard assuming you have a fairly flat/level surface to put it on.

3-piece slate top?

Never did it myself, but I do know the unit has bolts that go in from the sides.
Then the slate and finally the felt, and rails. It will need to be leveled afterward and
the pieces will not be light or easy to handle. My suggestion is call a local pool table vendor. They can put you in touch with an installer who will set it up for you.

I did all but put the felt on. It was an old Brunswick table from the 60's. I emailed Brunswick and asked where to find instructions, they emailed them to me in about 2 hours.

Yep 3 piece slate. I assume its a 2 man job?

Unless you're brutally strong. Even then the felt stretching is way easier with more people.

It's not too bad really. If there's ANY lip on your slate joins (almost unavoidable) be sure to fill it and sand it. Make sure you clean the slate fully before felting. After that take your time leveling and be anal about it. Be somewhat careful on stretching the felt...those boards aren't as strong as you'd think (providing you're stapling).
