Anyone here effected by outsourcing?

I have been hearing alot about outsourcing especially in the tech industry and am just curious as to how many fellow ATOT'ers have been hit by this outsourcing bug.

My entire team (200 people) got moved to Canada.

They make 1/3 of what I did & they don't know anything.

Go HP!

Ditto except I didn't work for HP, it was another company that made some wrong moves... Thankfully before I got let go for good, I was promoted to support the "new guys" in Canada that knew nothing.

do you guys think the unions have anything to do with the rise in outsourcing. i was privy to some inside opinion on a union walkout or whatever with a big company lately. what the company has to put up with is completely ridiculous, and if i was said company i'd fire every single worker involved and outsource overseas as well just to not deal with the headaches. attempting to completely shut down a company becuase you feel that your retirement benefits (my job with a local pc shop didn't give me any retirement benefits and you didn't see me working, instead i busted ass to improve myself to get a better job) aren't good enough. just curious.

Yeah SBC Global DSL reps are in India and I can never understand a word they say. Ended up asking for higher up people until I got someone who spoke well enough.

Thankfully no. I really can't ever happen in my line of work. I do know serveral people that has been effected, and it's quite sad to see jobs go like that.

I work as an equity (stock) analyst and we just had a research department meeting today telling us that they are going to start outsourcing some research to India.

Its not going to affect us but it may affect future hiring.

Unions USED to have their place. And I'm sure in very few industries, they still do. However, most exist today to drive up their own wages for unskills labor and hence, drives up the cost of goods.

I've seen about 10 people lose there 80K+/yr jobs to outsourcing.

How am I affected? Now I have to do their job as well.

Most of IT in my company has been outsourced. So instead of having programmers that speak english and don't know what they're doing, we have programmers in Manila that don't speak english and don't know what they're doing.

My company has also setup a duplicate helpdesk in Manila, with the excuse that the people there will "take on the redundant and easy calls". Unfortunately, that's most of our calls (given that we support grocery stores) and our saving grace at this point is the fact that they won't give the people in Manila a decent training budget.
