Thinking about joining the local club. Want to know your experiences.

//updated

So I went. Evidently there's 2 clubs at work, one specific to my company and one that's open to others. I went to the open one.

There was about ~25 people there, 6 from my company and the rest from other local companies. Most seemed to be professional. As soon as they started speaking though it was on a whole different level. No uh, uhm, ah, so, like. VERY noticeable. I was thoroughly impressed.

At the end of the meeting I got recruited by the VP for the smaller, company-specific club. I'll be going to that next week.

the members make the club, so if you can join one that a lot of professionals are going to then it adds to it, imo

We have a club at our company, the people seem to get a lot out of it because the attendance is very steady. I can see how it would be useful plus being a good networking opportunity.

Been thinking about it for a long time. It seems like it would be fun in a weird way.

They had a chapter at my old employeer, never truely joined but went to a few meetings. I think it would be a good thing to do, I just never had the time, they were to concerned with productivity. But the people that did go to all the meeting all really enjoyed it and said it helped them out.

I went to a meeting here and it was like a bad drama club. I think it was a bad group (elderly retired people, students, non-working mothers etc) so I'm gonna try another one that's supposed to have mostly working professionals.

My friend did and it helped her improve on her public speaking, which wasn't bad to begin with. No pics.

I had a fear of public speaking but my job, a litigator requirs calm and collective before a magistrate. I got into Toastmasters as a guest for a while and then joined officially. After about a year, I lost my fear of public speaking, was able to give speeches without saying ah, ah, ah, and other speech problems that I was not even aware of. I recommend it, but be careful in the sense that not all the Toastmaster clubs are the same. Some are very clickish and agressive and some are very easy going and layback. We had people moving around all the time to try and find a good fit for them.

I drank the Kool Aid.

I'm part of the club at work. I found it has helped me improve my confidence when talking to complete strangers. It also get me out and interacting with people outside of my department.

I don't know what a toastmasters is, but I assume it either has to do with making great toasts at weddings, funerals, etc. OR it has to do with making perfectly toasted bread.
