I'm looking for resources to get a more in depth base on the subject. Data visualizations have always interested me but it's hard to find good resources for how to design one properly. (And the things to really consider) I've found some talks on YouTube, a Udacity course, coursera course, a MIT course, and some other stuff but a lot of them tend to focus very heavily on the tools and not on design as much. Tools are fine (basically it's all d3.js) but I'm really interested in the design process more than the engineering/programming process right now.

Maybe I just need to read more about design in general. I'd like resources on that too if anyone knows some.

Are you talking about how to make a data visualization fit for purpose and actually be useful? If so then good luck because even the principals don't know what they hell they're trying to convey more often than not. Basically you have to know User Centered Design, Human Factors Engineering, have a bit of creativity and problem solving ability, and most importantly have an actual story for the visualization to tell.

Tableau actually has a "Vizualization of the Day" you can use to spark some ideas.

I'll keep that in mind. I know there's a lot that can go into it. That's why I asked for some resources.

I don't have any particular thing in mind at the moment. However, I wanted to try to prepare myself for future endeavors.
