Who here is running one of these puppies? How much do they overclock? They run on older motherboards also right? Like a kk266?

Nice link Adul...those guys are using the K7 Master though...I have a feeling the Epox might do a little better... I think it is fair to say MSI mobo's are not usually the best overclockers. (No flames please :) ) Epox already has a new bios out that officially supports the Palamino, and supposedly the FSB wil now go up to 250mhz, and it also seems to actually utilize a 1/6 divisor...too bad no current DDR will get anywhere near that speed... I will be happy with 1.4ghz..anymore is a bonus as far as I am concerned...:)

I think one common myth about the Palomino has been dispelled...that it needs a 3-phase power solution. It works fine on the Epox and it is officially supported now on the 8K7A...and it only uses a bi-phase design...

WTF?

I miss 1 day, and I don't know that Epox 8K7A has a 1/6th devisor (for the PCI I'm assuming?).

dear god... well, that means that board pretty much officially supports 200mhz FSB (what about AGP?) speeds. btw, that means 400mhz DDR..

I think Pabster was waiting for one as well and expecting it any day...

Insane3d...we wait in anticipation for your chip to arrive and get some benchmarks...PPL have been getting some insane fsb boost off of these boards as well...maybe get some pc2400 memory with that thing...Isn't pc2700 just announced recently by some manufacturer and that would be = to 333mhz memory...should work on this board then with the big fsb boost...

Soccerman:

Yeah, I picked up that info when scouring the AMDMB forums. It apparently supports the 1/6 divisor in hardware, but I haven't really used the board yet, so I can't be sure. I have a feeling that is indeed the case though if the new bios lets the FSB go up to 250mhz...if it didn't that would be some serious AGP and PCI speeds. Also, there is someone on this forum who got one up to 190mhz with CPU FSB! If I see the thread again, I will link it.

Duvie:

I have heard the same thing about the FSB's on these Epox boards...only time will tell. I only picked up one stick of Crucial because I was really waiting for their new PC2100 with the CL=2 Micron chips...same as what the Corsair PC2400 uses. They won't be selling it for another month or so while they try to sell out the CL2.5 stuff. I almost got some Corsair, but it was almost twice as much for 256mb. If I feel my memory is holding me back, I will probably pick up some better stuff down the line. Also, PC2700 was adopted as a standard recently (166mhz), but I haven't seen any for sale yet. It will probably take a bit for the yields to get better...

BTW: I just got my FEDEX tracking number for my MP from Monarch Computers...should be here early next week. :)

Yes, I'm waiting for a 1.2GHz AthlonMP as well. Looks to be here Monday, but could be Tuesday. I also purchased mine from Monarch, they aren't always the cheapest, but always seem to have the new stuff and their service is real good. I picked up 256MB of Corsair PC2400 today as well, to see how it goes. I'll be testing with the Crucial first, the Corsair later. Hopefully the Crucial will hit enough speed I can just sell the Corsair :D

The Athlon 4 runs at 1.75v?

I'm at work, and not at my desk... So I can't download that .pdf file that FastEddie linked. Anyone care to check it out for me?

Wingz: It appears so. The default vcore of the 1ghz and 1.2ghz MP's is 1.75v. I will have to check the specs of the mobile Athlon 4 and see if it is different.

/edit:

I wonder if it has something to do with Power Now! not being enabled in the MP's. Maybe the lower voltage is dependant on Power Now!?

Just saw over at Athlonoc (thanks Pabster)that they got a 1.2ghz MP/Palomino up to 1573mhz! This was on a KT7A-R, so it looks like there's hope for the KT133A boards and Palomino's...:)

I thought the palomino is supposed to have the cooler running core and I thought had something to do with running at lower core voltage????

I thought powernow was a feature designed to get the mobile athlons into the laptop market, and thus may be only a laptop feature to save battery life and reduce heat with some throttling down features.

Is it possible since many will be running the mp on older socket a boards which may have to have something extra on them to enable the lower power features? Maybe the newer chips will only run lower at default on newer boards designed specifically for the desktop palominos? Nonetheless maybe they will rrun at lower voltages anyways...
