Anyone here build their own home, as opposed to buying a pre-built one?

The problem with 2.4 acres isn't the size but more than likely it doesn't have underground utilities and running those to the home may be expensive or cost-prohibative.

Depending on the location, and if you don't have public utilities, you could be looking at $5,000-$15,000 for a well. Another $5,000 for septic. And then anywhere from a couple hundred to *tens* of thousands to have electric and natural gas run to it.

You could easily be $50,000 deep just in making the place able to build on. And this isn't including any excavating that has to be done - removing trees, scraping the ground to make for a walkout, putting in a driveway, ect.
