I am looking to build one with a touchscreen to play MP3, Navigation, basically that is it.

Anyone do a similar project? What hardware did you use, how much did it cost, and pics would be great?

They make MP3 players and navigation systems for cars now. You can just go down to your local stereo shop and have them put in, and they'll actually fit right.

Maybe he wants something a little clunkier than that, you know, with wires sticking out. Don't rain on his parade!

Yeah, true, if you want wires running across the floor of the car, a big beige box in your trunk, holes cut in your dash to fit a LCD screen that you made the bezel for yourself, etc, you'll probably have to make one yourself.

You people are hillarious. Carputers, when done properly, are not an eyesore.

But in this case, it does seem that due to his limited role requirements, a purpose-built system would be less expensive.

I've got one. It's not the prettiest or ugliest thing out there, but I didn't want to put in the time or effort to make it look OEM. My truck isn't worth it. The comp is hiding behind my seat, so it's not seen anyway.
