Anyone here a graduating Florida HS senior?

sounds reasonable to me...the article seems to imply that seniors who did not pass the test do not have to go back to school or repeat 12th grade, they can just take the test over and over again until they pass to get their diplomas.

edit: I do agree that there should be accommodations for those for whom english is a second language...

Sounds reasonable here, too.

English is the language spoken in the U.S. Got a problem with it? Learn it or move. Simple, really.

Those still seeking their diplomas after graduation day can continue taking the test indefinitely.

"I'm really happy I get to walk with my friends," Charles said. "I'm not going to give up and I'm going to do everything I can to pass (the FCAT)."

Thats a much better attitude then complaining.

I read this article earlier, a joke that people are protesting. You can't pass a simple high school reading and math test then you shouldn't recieve a high school diploma. Some people who can barely read or do any work think they should just get handed a diploma now a days.

I took it in 11th grade as the diagnostic year. I think I really helped make it easier with some of the absurd responses I gave. We were assured our scores would not be saved anywhere and so we all had a good time. I am suprised they didn't suggest me for counseling though with some of my answers.

I had to take the HSCT (High School Competency Test) as my graduation exam. I believe that was a bit easier though I think that exam tested for a 7th grade level.

I took it 2 years ago in 10th grade... it is horribly easy. If you do not pass this test you are a moron.

Sadly, there are a lot of morons out there. I feel for the people who arrived in the US and are having trouble with the English portion of the exam, but honestly, you can't expect to be able to graduate from a US high school without knowing English. I wouldn't expect to be able to graduate from a German, French, or Spanish high school, so why do people expect to come to the US not knowing English yet still be able to graduate?

Because more liberal-minded parents bitch and moan and hire lawyers and other crap. "It's not little <insert child name here>'s fault. It's the fault of a plagued system."

I took it an passed it. THe funny thing is, Florida is one of the only states that gives ALL students the opportunity to go to college for free with the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, and many dont' make it. If you want a full paid scholarship with extra money, you just have to have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, 75 hours of community service, 1270 SAT or 28 ACT. To get 75% of your tuition paid (which I have recieved), you need a 3.0 gpa, 970 SAT or 20 ACT. Hell, students in other states would KILL to be able to have the opportunity we floridians have, yet most take it for granted.

you are right. i would kill to have that opportunity. :Q

every HS graduate should meet certain standards when they're able to get their diplomas. I don't know about the florida one but the ones I've taken when i was still in high school was really a joke. Common sense stuff that everyone should know in order to be able to survive this society.
