A guy I work with just quit to join a company that eliminates peoples credit card debt. Not consolidate just eliminate. He wouldn't go into detail but he said that the credit card companies have broken consumer laws and legally he can elimate your credit card dept for 1,000 dollars. Then a guy I work with said that he got his cc dept eliminted by this company, so now i'm curious. I've also seen flyers around town for this "service". I'm not thinking about doing it because It's probably illegal and definately unmoral. (not to mention i don't have cc dept) But I am curious if anyone knows what this "company" actually does.

Anyone else heard about this crap?

Sounds pretty sketched...if it were a real legitimate business, how come I've never seen informercials on how to eliminate my debt?

Oh wait...

Pretty sure its when they just dispute all the charges, it has to be removed from your report until it is verified. Temporary only. (if it is what I am thinking about)

It's all legit. A long time ago, I had a lot of CC dept. I couldn't afford anything, so I started living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. Soon, as my job of placing tiny classified ads in papers all across the US, picked up, I decided to pay off my dept. That is when I got into such a program, and got rid of my debt. It was so easy, I just do it and forget it.

SCAM

Dispute credit reports, they disappear temporarily.

Then *gasp* they re-appear

Well maybe for a $1000 they eliminate you. No more debt(dept, for all you Dan Quayles). Hey if the government could get on this deal the econmy would be a lot better. 6 trillion down the drain for $1000.

There are legitimate ways to clean up a credit report, and there are scams.

Most businesses that advertise these services are scams.

A lawyer who specializes in this type of thing can be very successful in eliminating negative items from your credit report. However, many companies that advertise these services will walk away with your money AND leave your credit in worse shape than it was when you started.

You can also clean up your credit yourself, using the same techniques these companies do, and save yourself the money. Start at http://www.creditnet.com for more information.

And visit the FTC's website (start here for more information and more warnings about scams.
