He said the cards support 3ds max 6 or 3ds mar 5 (I dont event know what this means!!)

Can anyone explain to me about these cards?? How much they retail for??

Here are their series:

QuadroFX500
QuadroFX1000
QuadroFX2000
QuadroFX3000

Yes I've heard of them.

As was stated, they are high-end workstation (drafting/modeling/graphics) cards on the same level as the FireGL cards.

They are pretty pricey.

The Quadro line are cards a for low to high end workstations. Primarily used for 3D Animation, such as 3DStudio Max, Alias Maya or Softimage XSI.

Not sure if the prices have changed but they were $500 on the low end, and $2200 on the highend.

I've got an Nvidia Quadro Go FX700 in my laptop. Its a really good card for a laptop (or at least compared to the ATI 7500 mobile that was in my Sony).

What exactly is different about a Quadro though? Isn't it the exact same Geforce4 or GeforceFX chipset etc, just with higher quality RAMDAC (for crisper images on CRT monitors) and better drivers that emphasize accuracy of triangles/detail over rendering speed?

The miners finally demolish the rock you've been living under? :)

People have been able to mod the boards with just a pair of resistors so that the Geforce* cards get recognized as Quadro* cards and end up utilizing the more expensive card's feature set.

If there is a difference in the quality of the analog signal filtering and such, the mod won't give it to you.

it might not be quite that simple. In the process, you might also destroy the card or the mod may simply not work.

whaaat? are you saying that nvidia puts the same features in a $200 card (geforce) as a $1000 card (quadro)?? all you have to is to "unlock" the potential of the gf cards?!? if that was the case...why isnt everyone modding their gf cards and why isnt nvidia kicking ATI's ass?

ATI has a similar setup with the FireGL cards. The difference isn't in the performance, but the feature set, and I'm assuming the quality of filters.

A guy I work with won one of these cards at an Engineering convention. It's just sitting on his desk in a box. Would this card be any good at 3d gaming?

They can game just as well as any GeForce, but it all depends on the series. QuadroFX vs Quadro4, vs... whatever. I built a CAD workstation w/ a Quadro4 750xgl (iirc), and it got about 12000 3dmarks (2001se), which was about the same as the Radeon 9600xt I had, but the Quadro can do stuff I'm sure my 9600xt couldn't.

They game almost exactly the same as thier Geforce equivilent. They just cost a whole lot more.

Yeah, here's an article about modifying a 9700 into a FireGL.

yes. for CAD/CAM stuff and whatnot. right up there with 3dlabs products.

How are they for gaming?

i believe just the same as their 'regular card' counterparts.

Edit: which apparently what everybody else have said :)
