A coworker of mine was talking about how he is building a home theatre system and was in the market for a reciever. He was told to purchase the Model 1050 6.1-channel Digital A/V R: eceiver made by Outlaw audio: reciever

Description from website: "Once again, superb engineering allows us to offer a piece of equipment that performs well beyond its price level. The Model 1050 offers 6.1 channels of digital processing for DTS, Dolby Digital, and our own 6.1 channel playback, which adds a dramatic rear center channel speaker. For only $499 (US and Canada only)."

never heard of this company, wondering if anyone has. Also I don't know anything about home stereo systems or recievers, i'm just trying to help out a coworker. Thanks a bunch!

This receiver has a very good reputation. I believe Outlaw was founded by former employees of several other audiophile companies, and their products are only sold direct. This receiver was very well-reviewed when it was selling for $599, and they have since dropped the price to $499. Obviously there is an inherent risk that you will not like it, since you can't listen before buying, but most everyone seems to agree that it is really good.

You got it.
Never heard anything bad about it's SQ or the amount of power it cranks out. Looks VERY solidly built under the cover!

I've heard of them, they get great reviews. He is taking a bit of a chance getting one, as you must pay for shipping to return it.
