Anyone heard of Sumic or Kumho tires?

PLace I take my car for all its work and where I"ve gotten tires before, has recommended some Sumic tires for my car. I've never heard of them so thought I'd check here to see if others had.

I was leaning towards some Kumho Ecsta ASX from TIrerack but just wanted to cover all my bases.

Or would anyone recommend the Ecstas and I should just buy them? They got some good reviews on TR but I don't know anyone personally that has them.

'99 Grand Am if it matters.

I steer away from private brands, but according to this site they are manufactured by Cooper.

Kumho tires are regular commercial tires. They are fine.

THat's good since I ordered the Ecsta ASXs from Tirerack. I guess we'll see how they compare.

I have the Kumho Ecstas on my Protege right now. They are ok, nothing great, but they were like $60 so I wasn't expecting a ton. They are fine for my uses.

I'd like to point out that when I posted Kelemvor only had Sumic in the title.

Kumhos are fine tires.

I had a set of Kumhos. They lasted a pretty long time for performance tires. Car and Driver gave them a low score in wet conditions though. Just don't drive too fast when it rains and they'll be fine.

Kumho is an executive Korean tire brand. They make great tires. I have my winter tires and all-season from Kumho

There are better tires out there than Kumho, but they're hard to beat for as cheap as they usually are.

Ecsta ASX are not so much performance as comfort. I have a set on my Camry and it is quiet and soft sidewalls makes no negative impact on ride. Brand new, the tires produce good amounts of grip but as it wears, it quickly decreases to more pedestrian amounts. One good thing is that it's very progressive and easy to drive at the limits. It's not bad, but it's not really an Extreme Performance All Season as classified on Tirerack if you're expecting that.

By Sumic I'm assuming you meant Sumitomo? If so, they're comparable to Kumho but just not as well known.

Sumic is indeed a Cooper / Laramie brand name as someone already pointed out.

I've heard great things about CumHo tires. Plus the name is funny

My car has almost 120k miles and is from '99 so I'm not planning to keep it much longer. That's why I went with these since the tread won't wear down before it's time for a new car. But I need something new for the snow and at least the next year.

Not sure Sumic actually matches up to Kumho but for the record, Sumic is indeed made by Sumitomo Rubber in Jakarta Indonesia. This particular plant also makes Goodyear, Dunlop and Falken tires sold in that region therefore the quality and value is on a par with those more recognizable brands.
