Anyone heard of Safeware?

I would like to get theft insurance for my laptop. Googling found links to www.safeware.com and mention of "SystemSure" (an insurance policy they offer) from several universities and other orgs. I figure they are not a fly-by-night operation if multiple universities use them.

I quoted theft insurance for a $2300 laptop at $138 per year. It's pretty steep, but I'm considering it anyway. Anyone ever hear of them, or use them? Anyone know of a similar (cheaper) service? Thanks a lot.

I'm pretty sure it covers theft from inside our apartment only. I'm definitely going to check with the wife, though.

My main worry is that a string of muggings has been reported in Boston lately, and I'll probably be walking to my car alone pretty late some of the time. I'm thinking of getting coverage for a year and then just taking my chances if I feel safe. I'm not normally such a nervous nelly, but my whole life will be inside this laptop for the next few years. I'm also going to take period Ghost image backups and back up my important files every night.

If something gets stolen out of my car, my homeowners insurance would cover it. However if it's stolen like at work or somehting, I'm not sure if they'd cover it so you may be right. Can't hurt to check though.
