I am a junior in High School and aparently I got "selected" because of my academics for a 10 day trip at some conference/retreat in Austin Texas. It sounds really interesting and I would like to go into the field of computers/internet one day. Their website is Nextech . Has anyone heard of this place or gone to it before? If so, what was it like? Was it worth it? I really don't wanna go there if this place is some scam. Thanks. Tuition is about $2000. (air fare not included)

its for real from what i can tell, and i go to the university of texas at austin (soph. right now) majoring in computer engineering. i believe we have a lot of kids on campus that do these kind of progs, but yes it seems these companies also make a lot of money doing this too.

can't really say since i haven't done anything like that, but $2,000 plus airfare sounds very expensive. if you or your parents have the cash go for it, else if there is any hesitation i wouldn't do it. just my opinion. ;)

it sounds like just a way for them to make more money. no offense but if u were to be rewarded for your academics, then u shouldn't have to pay 2000 to attend this. in high school i went to a program offered for free and was selected because of my academics and it was awesome. so you can find experiences like this without paying for it. and these kinds of things are just an added bonus. you won't be any worse off for not having gone to it when you apply for college or whatever. so just do it if you have money to waste, otherwise i suggest you spend your 2000 dollars elsewhere.
