My gf's mom is looking for a computer and I refused to build it this time (well, I wasn't an ass about it, I just said that warranties are wonderful things).. I am doing some research and noticed that ibuypower.com has some great systems with great warranties for next to nothing ($384 for a pretty good athlon XP based system) - anyone know anything about this computer? how do their computers compare to dell?

edit: glad to make the spelling police happy..

Well, they are not Dell. You can usually get a better deal price-wise from them but quality isn't as good (not to say bad, just not as good). Dell has better customer service. Reviews of their systems are generally good especially at their price points.

iBuyPower builds pretty impressive machines for the amount they charge.

i might be wrong, but it looks like with ibuypower you get better quality of parts. with ibuypower, you can pick the manufacturer of your motherboard, your cdrw, memory, etc.. i dont see such options with dell. and regarding the customer service, i hear lately that with dell outsourcing the tech support overseas, the quality of the support has dropped a lot.

i currently own a dell, and i've been really satisfied with it, however, i'm exploring other options (ibuypower included) for my next machine.

So are there any other companies that I should be looking at? She definately needs a sub-$4/500 system for basic office tasks..
