Any of you smokers ever try it or know someone who has?

Trying to get my mom to quit.

So to go abstinent, I should try eating pus... oh wait... that probably won't work.

No but I once ate the contents of an ashtray for a pack of cigarettes. No lie.
On a sidenote, the easiest way to quit is to pick up a habit of physical exertion. Running, swimming, etc. Many also quit when they're stricken with a serious neumonia or similar sickness.

well this past weekend i kept tellin my friends how on saturday I found out my uncle has lung cancer.

he hasn't smoked a cigarette since i've been born (and i'm almost 24 years old). he's probably 55 or so and hasn't smoked a cigarette in over 25 years, yet he has just been found out to have lung cancer.

stop smoking while you still may have a chance. i know this type of situation doesnt happen to everyone, but its an example to show that it can.

EDIT: and pretty much ALL my friends smoke cigarettes on a regular. i've tried them once.

I think they must have endorphins because I'm always feeling good after a nice lunch :)

I wish my moms could do that, but she is so out of shape, she would probably die at exertion.

How did the ashtray contents taste?

I don't know if that is a good idea. Pure nicotine is very toxic, and I think there is a lot more nicotine in a cigarette than what a smoker normally inhales.

hmm, what about those guys that DIP or Chew...some of them must have a 1/4 pound in the cheek and 1/8 pound in their lip...more nicotine in there.

Yeah my buddy told me to do it when I was quitting.. I didn't. Needless to say, the patch works.

Can't say that I reccomend it.

Spladow!

Didn't say anything about nicotine and toxcicity on snopes, but I assume that if you can smoke a cigarette without dying you could probably eat one too. Maybe I'm wrong.

I had some friends with Doberman who was addicted to cigarette butts. We'd be sitting there smoking away and every so often he'd come around and wolf down the contents of the ashtray like it was Alpo. Don't know if they ever got the nerve to make him quit. :Q

From here

Unfortunately, the fact that nicotine alone is an extremely toxic poison often goes unmentioned. Not many people realize that nicotine is also sold commercially in the form of a pesticide! And every year, many children go to the emergency room after eating cigarettes or cigarette butts. Sixty milligrams of nicotine (about the amount in three or four cigarettes if all of the nicotine were absorbed) will kill an adult, but consuming only one cigarette's worth of nicotine is enough to make a toddler severely ill!

thanks, so an adult eating one cigarette will not kill them! Make them sick, probably the aversion therapy try.

Actually, for an average person that's not true. It's not a good idea, but chances are that it won't kill you. In certain countries people actually eat a cigarette to kill intestinal parasites. Each individual can tolerate different amounts of toxins in their body, so while one cigarette may kill John Doe it may not necessarily kill Jane Doe. I wouldn't suggest trying it though :)

I guess eating a cigar would be really deadly.
