Ironic that the day we get out for Mardi Gras break (yeah, we get one  ), I come down with a 102 fever and can't go to New Orleans. Sad thing is my friend lives down there and we were all going to stay down there for the week, but now I get to sit around doing homework and posting on ATOT. :(

edit: what am i talking about, tis the fever. Never heard of any of them though, sorry. :p

You've never heard Dr. John before? I'm sure you've heard "Right Place" before and just never knew who it was. He's jazz/rock, plays piano. Lots of fun live. I've seen him at JazzFest several times and at the Endymion ball years ago. Honestly, I've never heard of any of those other artists before. Baaba Maal sounds familiar, but I don't know why.

Any suggestions on what else I should do besides the festival when I'm down in Lafayette?

I got this info from Cajun DJ in Baton Rouge:

Hi,

I don't know about a lot of the international acts, but I put together some comments about some of the Louisiana bands.

Also, try to find the spot that the Cajun Jam session is that La Folk Roots Sponsor. That is really neat to watch.

Hope this helps,

Clarence clarence@cajunradio.org www.cajunradio.org

DJ KBRH 1260 AM Baton Rouge

7:15 p.m. - Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys (Louisiana) (very popular)

7:30 p.m. - D.L. Menard w/ special guest Ray Abshire (Louisiana) (D.L is a legend often referred to as Cajun Hank Williams)

1:30 p.m. - Bois Sec Ardoin w/ special guest Cedric Watson (Louisiana/Texas) (Bois Sec is a legend)

3:15 p.m. - Dexter Ardoin & the Creole Ramblers (Louisiana) (same family as Bois Sec)

Also,

the following are not must see, but ones that I like a lot:

11:45 a.m. - Lost Bayou Ramblers (Louisiana) (young cajun band that play the old style)

3:00 p.m. - The Bluerunners (Louisiana) (cutting edge rock and cajun)

5:15 p.m. - The Red Stick Ramblers (Louisiana) (Western Swing with a cajun flavor)

2:00 p.m. - Veillée (Louisiana) (does a lot of old style cajun ballads, important for the ballads and historical songs more than the instruments)
