A guy at my old job (black clothes, long hair, goatee type of guy) used to talk about this stuff.
I'm a protestant (Baptist) and it was kinda interesting to hear him talk about this stuff.... he said that ancient Hebrew texts say that any first born son of a pure Jew has the "potential" or "ability" to have the same powers as Jesus Christ did, it's just that the art has not been practiced. He talked about some people who studied these ancient texts a couple hundred years ago and they went crazy? I remember he mentioned a name and a book that talks about it. He mentioned the name Abermayle the mage (spelling?) and some other stuff.
I apologize for being so vague, but does anyone know wtf I'm talking about?
