Anyone heard anything about if the Go 6800Ultra could be unlocked?

Just wondering if anybody had heard anything about being able to unlock the extra 4 pipes.

I figure probably not, since A.) that laptop is a tad expensive and B.) mobile chips don't seem to be checked for modding ability in general.

It may be only a 12 pipe care physically, and not able to be modded. Im not 100% sure on this.

If you could unlock it, it would increase the power draw and heat on the laptop pretty considerably, while this isnt as much of a concern on desktops, for mobiles it can be a serious problem.

its physically only 12 pipes.....therefor no unlocking

its based on the PCI E version of the 6800NU, (NV41?) either way that chip was built as 12pipes only

Yeah, the Go6800\Ultra is an NV41M. Its the mobile version of the 12-pipe only NV41. This chip cannot be unlocked, as its only got 12 physical pipes. Even so, its still the fastest mobile GPU out there.

The nv42m is (almost the same) as the nv41m except it is 0.11 and possibly has 6 vertex shaders.

Yeah, I figured it was probably only physically 12 pipes, but didn't know too much about it.

Still plenty fast though. Not quite sure how it manages to perform on a level with the desktop GT and Ultra having 4 less pipelines.

Laptop computers are definately getting much better for gaming. I can't wait for the ATI Mobility Radeon X800XT 256MB. I wonder how it'll perform compared to the GeFroce 6800 Go?:)
