Anyone hear about headphone sound degrading in one ear?

Hey, suddenly not too long ago my headphones (Sennheiser HD580s) sound suddenly sounded odd..

I did a few newbie (im no audiophile) listening tests and determined none of the deeper, bass (vibrate-y) sounds are coming out of the left ear anymore..

Anyone know what happened?

switching which ear each cable leads into doesnt change anything.. so im assuming its the headphones themselves... Out of warranty I believe. 🙁 Bought them on newegg in 2003, they dont have an invoice record or I bought it on an old account, dunno.

Ive just been dealing with it for a while, and after listening to my friends headphones I can no longer deal with this.. These are nice headphones, and I REALLY dont want to lose them 🙁
 
My headphone cable has died 6 times, costing me $20 for them to ship out a new one every time. They have been dicks, frankly, and its 1:43 am.. so.. no luck with the phone. 🙂

just curious if its fixable, as they will tell me to send it to them while they charge absurd fee's.
