yep,i did that and for a second it showed red and said there was a bad cluster or sector and then in a blink of a eye it automaticly took over and "fixed" the problem.this is what worries me if ibm is hiding bad clusters or segments so they don't show up so you don't return the drive,ya know what i mean?

Every harddrive ever manufactured has some bad sectore/clusters on it. That's because nothing is perfect. The bad sectors/clusters are "flagged" by the low level formatting and are not used. If you ran the drive fitness utility from IBM and your HDD passed then you can't RMA it anyway. If you doubt the reliability of the drive you can use it for non-critical storage or you can shelve it.

IBM has been having some problems with their hard drives lately, which is why you should research and figure out what would be the best bang for the buck...

Sorry about your hard drive, but unless it's making a clicking noise, or is screwed up, you just have to hope it'll die soon so you can RMA it...

The good news is, lol, that both western digital hard drives I've had to RMA, the ones that came back were better than the original :)

I'm hoping that when you do send yours is, this is the case for you also.

(by better I mean they perform and function a lot better...)

If you aren't hearing and clicking or abnormal noises coming from your drive, I don't think you should worry too much, but just keep an eye out on the hard drive and run IBM's drive fitness test as often as you feel necessary (I run diagnostics on my hard drives every weekend)...
