Anyone having trouble with DirecTV keeping a signal?

Just wondering.
I'm getting 100% signal but it's dropping about every 10 minutes and then re-does it initial guide install. No storm clouds around. Just started today, so I figured I'd check if anyone else is having issues, or if it's my equipment.

wow. just spent the worst couple hours trying to get a hold of a customer service rep of any company in my life.

I normally like directv, but after this experience (and being treated rudely by a rep), I am seriously thinking of dropping them.

Working fine in central KY. I've had DirecTV for right at a year now, and I've never had the signal go out while I was watching. This includes some damn heavy rain showers, too. Guess I've been lucky.

Huh. I've only called twice; once when I first got it and again when I needed to change my reciever. Both times the rep was fairly courteous.

The the OP: Your symptoms do seem to indicate either a faulty receiver or LNB.

Have you added a splitter?

Normal splitters between the receivers and the dish are a no-no: the receivers put out a +13 and +18 volt signel to select which polarity of signal to receive. If you put two receivers on a (normal, cable-tv style) splitter, the voltages conflict.

You can only use a (normal) splitter on the "TV Out" port.

If you need to bring up two (or more) receivers, you need a dual-lnb dish, and (for more than two receivers) a multiswitch (which is a device to properly distribute the voltages and connect the receivers to the correct polarity LNB.

little more info (for those that care :) )

DTV receiver starts shutting off and rebooting about every 10 minutes. satellite signal strength is 100%.

try to call directv for replacement receiver (if that is the problem). 10+ phone calls of being cut off or sent to a busy signal, I am upset. finally get ahold of a rep (turns out a sales rep and cannot help me), she transfers me to a disconnect. call again, takes another hour to get ahold of anybody. again it's a sales rep. I explain to him that I am an unhappy customer and the past experience of being cut off. he tells me that he can do nothing more than transfer me to the same number that cut me off. I explain that this will not help me, and he becomes a d!ckhead.

him: "That's all I can do sir, if they do not answer or cut you off, I cannot fix that".
me: "are they having a problem? I've spent hours trying to get ahold of them?"
him: "They have been down for 4 days"
me: "you are kidding? there is no one you can transfer me to to help me?"
him: "just the same number you are trying to dial that keeps cutting you off"
me: "is there a supervisor I can talk to?"
him: "yes, be she will just tell you the same thing"
me: "That's fine, I'd like to speak to a supervisor"
him: "I will have to put you on hold and transfer you"
me: "I'm going to get cut-off or hung up again aren't I?"
him: "Please hold....." beep, dial tone....

again, this is after hours of trying to speak with someone, and being disconnected many times.

I have a triple LNB, and only one receiver. all was fine until the other day. the receiver is rebooting about every 10 minutes. DTV is unavailable to take support calls and has been for 4 days. unacceptable.

LOLOL

Have you tried taking the card out of the receiver and hard resetting the receiver? Find out what model receiver you have, and do a google search for soft/hard resets, and try performing those, and see if that helps. If you can't find instructions on how to do it, unplug it from the wall for 5 mins, that should do a soft reset.

Is your hardware still under warranty?

Yeah, I did all the hard resets. equipment is probably not under warranty anymore (it's the free stuff that came with the original deal).

Just unhappy that they are willing to accept 4 days of customer service downtime, and no-one is even willing to speak with me about it.

I found a few email addresses online though, and did get an email response from a director with a promise I'd be contacted. Hopefully someone will actually contact me.

I never said their reps weren't curteous or helpful, just that the time spent on hold is ridiculous. I've waited on hold for 45 minutes just to get disconnected then to have to stay on hold for another half hour.
