Anyone having NVIDIA Drivers not load after Windows 7 SP1

Ever since I installed Windows 7 SP1, about 1 out of 4 times I boot into my machine, the Nvidia drivers did not run.

At first, I blamed it on Avast 6 (I had uninstalled Avast 5 because I was having trouble with the SP1 patch and then after I got SP1 installed, I installed Avast 6 and the next boot, my NVIDIA drivers did not load or something, so I figure the change was Avast 6) and went to Microsoft Essentials but now it has happened again.

This time, I uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers and did clean sweep in safe mode and then reinstalled them in a regular session and so far it is okay and they are loading but it has only been one boot so far.

I am using the 266.66 drivers with a GTX 560ti.

Anyone else notice this (Nvidia drivers not loading on occasional boots after applying SP1 for Windows 7 the last few days)? Or could there be something else causing this?

haven't people learned yet to wait a good while after a new os or a service pack is released before jumping the boat...

however, not to be totally useless, I'll tell you that people are having problems with nvidia drivers and SP1...

I had a problem installing the service pack on my laptop with AMD 3200.
I did a manual service pack install and all is well now.

Are you overclocking the CPU or GPU? If so, SP1 might have code running in it that shows it isn't completely stable.

So your graphics was stopping the SP from installing?

I really don't know what it was , I went to the help support page and it said to disable my AVAST and that didn't work and a few other things ,but the last option I had was to install manually and it worked after about 2 hours.
It takes forever to install. :'(

I suggest he does what I did.
restore your system back (if he still can) and do a manual install.
It was a real PITA.

I also had issues with SP1 using nvidia drivers. DX9 games would not work at all, they all crashed with an nv3d3dum.dll error.

I had to uninstall afterburner and got it working again. Then I reinstalled drivers and used the newest afterburner and it's working again.

I had to try three times as it would crap out before even finishing downloading. my mother installed it fine right off the bat on her Compaq pc with 6150 integrated graphics.

For a new OS installation, would installing SP1 before "finalizing" the nVidia drivers be a workaround?

I don't think its Avast since I installed SP1 on two PCs that both have Avast, one has ATI drivers and one Nvidia ,no issues on either.

I then updated to Avast 6 ,again no issues, problem with Service Packs is there will always be a few people getting issues,it was the same with XP,Vista,etc....when you get clues like nv3d3dum.dll error etc ..it points to Nvidia driver issue .

I had this exact problem. After SP1 boot time increased and I the nvidia drivers were failing to load. I just rolled back on a system restore and will wait to see if this gets sorted out.

Today, Nvidia has new beta drivers. The one for the 560ti for Windows 7 X64 states the following (wonder if the last part has anything to do with what I am experiencing - I will try them and find out.)

BETA267.26March 1, 2011
Release Highlights:
This is a beta driver release from the Release 265 family of drivers (versions 265.xx to 269.xx). You can read more about this family of drivers on GeForce.com.
This driver package supports GeForce GTX 560 Ti.

New in Release 267.19
  • Adds 3D Vision support for Bulletstorm.
  • Adds SLI support for Homefront.
  • Improves compatibility with Dragon Age II.
  • Fixes an issue where the NVIDIA control panel may not be accessible via the Windows desktop.
