EVGA said they are getting theirs in a week. I had the impression that they will be offering it for individual sale on their store. Aquacomputer is about 10 days away from getting theirs in and EK should be any day now. I'm sure the first batch will sell out quickly though. I'll probably pay the premium for the aquacomputer one.

Why? It's exposed copper and all that goes with it. I've become a big fan of the nickle plated for looks and long term looks.

The aquacomputer has deeper channels and thinner fins, plus it is all metal except for the ports which provides better conductivity. Half of the contact area on the EK is plexi/acetal. The EVGA one is the worst though. Only the very bottom is metal.

I'll most likely wait to see what the consensus is once they hit the market. I like the nickel, but have been put off a bit from the previous flaking issues. They've addressed it, but it still makes me apprehensive, especially considering how long it took to remedy the problem last time.

Interesting. You think the all metal contact area cools better? I figure since the IC contact is broken by O-ring in all models it doesn't matter what the top is made of. Heat is carried over bottom plate and that's it.

FWIW I recently bought an EK supreme HF CPU block with the 'new' plating. It started flaking within a few days. Contacted EK for an RMA, they tried to tell me it was the fault of my using a silver coil... They offered for me to send the block to them in Slovenia, at my expense, 'for polishing' I escalated it and got the RMA.

Fortunately the way the RMA works is they have you return the block to place of purchase and send them a new one. The shop I use told me I could use it as a refund and buy something else. Got the all copper XSPC Raystorm, feck that nickel plated garbage imo.

Not saying EK is all bad, but I won't try the nickel plated stuff anymore. I have a copper/acetal mobo block from them I am using and would have no issues using a copper/acetal on my gpus. I do think I want the aquacomputer blocks though. I like the look and it will match my Raystorm. I also like all things made in Germany :D Aquacomputer has youtube videos of their manufacturing process.

Thanks for the link, they are savages to one in another in that forum, good information though. The issue they found, and I would agree, is that the amount of work and expense to put a proper nickel plating on the interior of these blocks is not profitable. So you wind up with sub-par platiing that does not prevent the issues of bare copper.

If one is willing to take their blocks and have some custom plating done I think that would be the best bet. There are other options though like they mention in the thread, such as using some benzotriazole in your loop water. After reading that I may try using a little. GPU blocks have pretty wide channels over the core area so the issue is not much worry to me, but CPU blocks have such narrow channels that I could see that issue cropping up.

That thread has a lot of amazing information in it. Makes me want to use their method with the multimeter testing a fitting on the pump to a fitting on your block for a charge in your loop. I've heard that often as an undiagnosed cause of corrosion in water loops. Of course if I found one, how on earth would you rectify it, replace the pump ? I wouldn't know where to start. :)

I know on my EK the O-Ring is compressed far enough to let the two plates touch. I've heard a lot of good stuff about aqua too, so I wanted to give them a go this time around. I didn't have any problems with my EK-FC470, but I like the design of the aqua more.

Either wrong water or mixing metals. My copper blocks look like brand new shinny on inside after years. However I use lab grade nanopure water and don't mix metals.

Outside not much you can do. Due to salts and water in the air. I guess spray it down with laquer or other coating would work though.

You really ought to read the thread...

I have and while it contains good info, the forum itself is horrible. RedRaider is one of the most abusive, abrasive people on the internet, every troll on ATOT included. If you happen to simply disagree with anything he posts, he first calls you "Negro" or worse, then bans you. If you say you use any Swiftech or Koolance product (and Koolance has some of the best machined blocks on the market, like their 370 cpu block---an absolutely gorgeous machined block), he derides you, belittles you, then bans you.

While RRTech is chock full of info, it's just not worth having to put up with the blatant racism and childish bullying that goes on there if you don't march in lockstep with RR's opinions to maintain a membership there. It's sort of like RR is the watercooling hobby's Rush Limbaugh....he's always right and if you disagree, he outshouts you and then pulls the ban hammer, just because you have a differing opinion to his.

Give me adults that will have discussions, like XS, instead of the crap RRTech pulls.

Yeah, I don't really care personally since I went back to air. Just posted that thread to point out that there is evidence to suggest there are valid reasons for nickel plating beyond just looks.

If you are still looking, they are available direct from ek on their website now.

If anyone is going to use my comment above to order some of these blocks direct from EK thinking they're in stock, they're not.

Looks like EK is playing sneaky due to the high demand and showing them as in stock to get orders. I ordered a couple earlier this week and inquired as to why they weren't shipping. They told me they are not in stock and quoted an addendum stating that from the product page, which wasn't there when I ordered..... They're in production and shipping them as soon as each block is produced.

Still is probably the fastest way to get one if you want them. None of the NA water cooling shops show stock either, so you'll still probably get them from EK first since they ship DHL 2 day express to NA.

AFAIK nobody has ever been banned from RRTech except multiple accounts. Also, from what I've seen, Red only is "abusive" to people who are wrong. If you're right, and most of the time the people in question aren't, he would probably admit to you having good information and then call you names.

The guy is an abusive idiot who happens to know his stuff when it comes to plating, but that's about it. Everything else is purely opinion. Don't agree with him? Just like they said above, nothing but shit talk from him and of course the bandwagon ass kisser members of his forum who want to look good for daddy. It's actually quite hilarious, whole sub forums and threads just to call out and belittle other companies lol. Let's not forget the racism. Pitiful guy is pitiful /facepalm

Anyway, universal blocks will work on this card, at least my MCW82 will. Just haven't had the time yet to put it together and throw it back in the loop. My opinion on a full cover block is not to go that route simply because I'm probably going to switch to custom card once they're out.

The automatic overclocking is crap.

Water cooled 680 GTX (mcw82)
@ 49c degrees and under = 1202 gpu clock speed
@ 50c degrees and up but below 60c degree = 1228 gpu clock speed
This is while running Heaven benchmark. Edit: Same for Bf3
I'm basically being penalized for keeping my card under 50c degrees :(
Oc settings 132%
+150
+450

Wait a minute, a 20% overclock is crap? It may be different trying to work around the dynamic OC, but the 680's have been good OCers for the most part. The dynamic stuff still needs to be sorted out. Once more WCers get their blocks, we will know more.
