Anyone have Z-2300s?

Are the Z-2300s any good? I have mixed feelings now because apparently, these speakers lack midtone definition. However, I have a SB X-Fi card. It's supposed to void of the negativity directed towards the speakers. I have a very small room too.

if you care about mid range and such then such low rent speakers aren't for you. something with more bookshelf level sats would be better.

a soundcard isn't going to compensate for dodgy speakers.

Well these speakers have incredible reviews on them. They're actually pretty good speakers from what I've been told, I just haven't listened to them myself. Anyone ever had experience with these speakers?

If all you've ever listened to are ear buds and stock computer speakers the Z-2300 will sound good. Granted the majority of people who review these and give them 5 stars come from the previously stated position.

The best thing to do is to set a budget and ask for the best speakers in that price range.

Most anything that is considered a "PC Sound System" will fall into the same problem, brittle highs, boomy bass, and no midrange.

I have a set of Logitech 5.1, Creative 5.1, and Altec Lansing 2.1, and the Altec Lansing kicks the ass out of the other speaker sets. Of course, I picked the AL set specifically for its sound quality. However, its still nothing compared to a good bookshelf speaker system.

There are mini amps that will take in bookselves and a sub and connect it to a PC output.

Or you could try the Swan M200 PC speaker system, which are practically bookshelves with a built in amp and connector. They don't come with a sub, though.

Thanks for your input guys. I know it's not going to be the absolute and most favorable sound system I've ever owned, but I want to be able to play music and video games on my speakers if I have company over. Like I said, very small room I got going on over here. My budget would be no more than a 150 USD. Could anyone kindly give me links or advice on which speakers they think are the best for that price range? I appreciate it!

I own a pair of HD555s, that's why I'm being so critical about speakers. I understand my headphones are legit and export very prominent sound, but I just want something respectable with as little flaws as possible.

Well, don't get me wrong the Z-2300s aren't bad speakers, but I have heard them and they're nothing special. I have the Altec Lansing MX5021, they still suffer from PC speaker problems but they are still very clear and very good. They cost me $130 when I got them however they don't seem to be sold anymore. Klipsch Promedia 2.1 are also pretty good but they are also hard to find (where are all these speakers going?).

If you can still find the Swan M200s, they only go for about $180-200, so a little over budget but they are quality speakers.

Otherwise, stick to brands like Altec Lansing, Klipsch, and some of the Creative ones. They tend to focus more on sound quality and less on gimmick.

You might want to head to an audio forum as they can direct you much better than I can.

I'm not trying to be cheap, but I don't want to pay more than 150 exactly. I'd rather spend 130 to be quite honest. That's what I thought, I never knew Logitech was into speaker making. I was quite skeptical about it since I've never heard it before. Can anyone else give me some advice for a 100-130 USD price range? Thanks so far everyone.
