Anyone have Win7, but is just too lazy to install it?

Yup...4 copies right here but I'm just too lazy to install it. The funny part is my XP is definitely going down the tubes because I think it was a bad install in the first place (haven't ever been able to change video card settings without having the system crash on me...even cleaning it all out and installing fresh didn't help. Similarly when I go to change my wallpaper it freezes everything for like 5 minutes before I can touch it again).

I guess part of the hesitancy is installing everything again. Another part is that the system will just randomly reboot out of nowhere :\ I can't figure out what causes the overall reboot. For sure part of it is known to me: accidently tapping the PC causes it to reset. Super odd...I've checked all the connections and can't find anything loose; maybe its something on the motherboard. Anyone else had that happen?

Anyways, maybe over Christmas I'll install one of them?

I got a copy for my laptop upgrade but haven't used it. Vista works great to me and I usually have something better to do than an operating system install.

Yes, this happened to one of my builds in the past. I never figured out what the problem was.

I have two copies, haven't installed either yet. One is for my computer, other is for my wife's.

I just had to replace my media server with another computer I had sitting idle, and instead of putting XP on it I just used the restore CD that came with it to install Vista. I'm regretting that... what a pain in the ass it was to get everything configured. VNC won't work if installed as a service, and every time I do something that pops up the UAC dialog it blocks VNC, so I have to run down to the basement and click OK before I can connect again. And for some reason the whole VNC window freezes up when I open TVersity. Overall not a positive experience. I'll probably upgrade to XP on the media server, and eventually I'll get around to putting Windows 7 on my desktop PC and my wife's PC.

Was this a lame attempt at asking for Computer Support in Off topic?

Well it does sound liek he has a loose washer on the back of the motherboard.

What he should do is strip his system down and take out the motherboard and clean the back of the MB. Then see if that fixs it.

Yep. Downloaded a copy from MSDNAA but haven't had the time/will to install it. I definitely want to drop Vista (for various reasons) and it's about time for a fresh install anyway, but I've just been too busy to do it this quarter.

I did for about a week, then I saw how stupidly easy and painless the install was and wondered why I didn't do it earlier.

From the recent ACM deal posted here, I have six licenses for Win 7 Pro, and burned copies of both the 64 and 32 bit media.
I also have 3 PC's here. All still running XP....

I don't want to have to deal with compatibility issues....

  • I ran the upgrade advisor and it told me that my 8800 GT was not compatible with Aero (which I think is bogus)
  • It told me that my Alchohol 52% would be incompatible.
  • I think it also told me Nero 6 wouldn't work...
  • Lots of people seem to have issues with Punkbuster (although lots don't).
  • Concerned that I may have an issue with the VPN I use for work, and they won't offer support for Win 7
  • I saw a thread here extolling the compatibility of Win 7, that ended with a message warning not to use an old version of MS Office with it (wtf?)

etc...etc...etc...

I think you're afraid to say goodbye to XP. It has served you well these past 8 years, but it's time to let it go. 😉

I bought the family pack (3 computer upgrades) and put it on both of my parents computers when I visited for Thanksgiving. I have the RC of Win7 installed on another HDD in my PC (dual boot with Vista 64) but I haven't gone through with the retail copy yet.

takes minutes to do, just do it.

regardless of the ease of upgrading as well as my love for XPPro, we cant upgrade even to vista until all my software i use on a regular basis is at least working on vista. i still have older clients that dont want to pay for upgrading the software we supplied them, so they are stuck on XP for now. hence, i am stuck with XP for now as well.

yeah...i ordered a couple copies. installed it on my laptop but haven't gotten around to it on my desktop. way too lazy to back everything up in order to do a clean install. i'm just going to wait till I get an SSD, then install it on that.

I couldn't wait to install it as soon as I get it, which was a few days after the release date. I went from Vista Ultimate to 7 Professional.

Just for perspective, on my macbook I also got Snow Leopard arrived a few days after it's released. It is still sitting there on my desk and I still don't have the urge to install it.

waiting to get a new processor/motherboard first. and maybe a new hard drive or SSD.

Is that because you're happy enough with Leopard, or because Windows 7 is so awesome you don't feel like using your Mac?

I installed Snow Leopard pretty soon after it was released... had some minor issues, which is probably contributing to my lack of desire to install Windows 7. And also, I got my Mac Mini 6 months ago along with VMWare Fusion, and I haven't even installed Fusion yet because all of my software needs have been met so far.

I have two desktops and a laptop so formatting one and installing everything fresh wasn't such a big deal since I did it gradually. This meant that I always had a machine that was fully configured so I was never stuck configuring crap just to get work done and could sort the new installs at my leisure.
