A stranger asks you on the street... what time is it ? It takes me a good 3-5 seconds to fully read the time - I guess I'm retarded. Anyone else take a bit of time before fully comprehending what they see ? 3-5 seconds is a long time just staring at your watch when someone asked you a quick question.

I think it's because I have a habit of reading the minute hand first. Duh.

i got used to it pretty quickly. however, my alarm clock is purposefully analog, so when i wake up i'm forced to concentrate on it to figure out what time it is, and by that time i've already used my brain too much and i wake up

NO.

Couldnt wait for digital watches to become available but after a few years I switched bach to analog.

Hands for time, digital for the rest is ok.

Like in a car, hand position on gauges is much quicker to reference/estimate while driving.

I have that happen sometimes....

But you know what I think causes me to pause the most is the brief internal question of whether to tell the person the EXACT time, such as 9:17, or the approximate time, like "twenty past 9" or just saying "it's 9:20." I go through this dilemma every time. Am I crazy? :p

Same here... I can read it quickly if I want to know that time it is. But if someone asks, then it takes me a little longer. I guess I can handle the pressure. ;)

Do what I do, stick my watch in front of his face, he can read it himself. :D

I have a similar problem and I know what caused it -- when I was in HS, this girl (who was very popular and very much in the bring-others-down-to-raise-yourself-up camp) asked me the time and I said it was 2:45, at which point she asked (in a withering fashion) why I didn't just say it was a quarter-til. It sounds pretty inconsequential now, but I still have the scar.

Also I have a problem reading analog time in the same fashion that I have with certain aspects of math (both of which embarass me). If I just guess, I'm typically right, but if I try to figure it out in my head(carry the one and...), I take awhile and feel stupid. Which I probably am.

Sometimes. Sometimes I just have a brain fart and I do the same thing... hesitate for a couple seconds, then answer.

I can read it instantly if I want to know. If someone else asks, then I stand there like a fool that just wears a watch to fit in. I also struggle over whether to round.

I honestly find it easier than reading digital (and yes, I understand that sounds odd if you are used to a digital watch). It's such second nature that I seem to process the analog face intuitively quicker than I can read a digital display.

You could get a Mickey Mouse talking watch and have it answer for you ... :p

I can recognize what time it is but it takes me a second to form a coherent sentence.
