Anyone have tomorrow off because of the storm?

Just got an automated message from my job stating that our area in upstate NY has issued a state of emergency and no one is supposed to be on the roads tomorrow morning due to the weather. We were off today too, and we only had about 3 inches.

Apparently the state doesn't have the resources to clean the roads, and I guess they are closing the thruway tonight after midnight. It's the first time I've gotten one of these calls, and we have had 3 foot storms in the past few years. So I guess this one will be really bad...or people are overreacting. Whatever, I'll enjoy my 2nd day off.

Drive safe if you need to go out in it!

I'm around the Binghamton area. Haven't left the house all day except to shovel. I'm glad I took pretty much the whole week off.

No. I live in the snowiest city in the country. Life continues despite the weather.

Weather.com says about 12-18 inches.

Suck it up. :p

I know, it's nothing. I've driven to work in more than that before. I actually prefer deep snow driving than ice. But I'm surprised that they can't keep up with the snow removal all of the sudden and are urging people to stay off the roads for such a low accumulation prediction.

Overreacting. The state of emergency was issued late this afternoon. Around here, it was snowing, but the roads were just fine. Spent a couple hours outside in it, and it's chilly, but nothing unusual. Just a typical winter storm. State of Emergency?? Must be Gov Cuomo needs some attention.

I worked from home today, will play it by ear tomorrow. Being able to work from home isn't necessarily a great benefit all the time, would like a day off. :(

Suppose to be the high of -7 on sunday then the high of -14 on monday so yea I wouldn't mind more snow as at least then it's warmer since you get next to nothing if any when it's so cold.

Worked from home today and tomorrow. I work in a development shop so everyone has remote access.

Wife and daughter now have tomorrow off because school has been called off. I'll have to work though.

I took today and am taking tomorrow off, but not because of the storm. I'm remodeling a small bathroom so I am hoping that my kids daycare is open tomorrow. If not it is going to be interesting trying to tile with my son peering over my shoulder.

lol, why didnt you work from home? slacker

School district, we usually don't have any (IT) work to do when no one is around. Although I did manage to get a virtual server built that I was procrastinating on, that took all of 30 minutes though, so most of the day was playing video games.

Light weights. In upstate NY the temps were 5 below which was nothing. But with the wind chill blasting, it had a practical feel of -39F. Nothing I know of closed today and that is with piles upon piles of snow all over the damn place. If the sidewalks had not been snow blown this morning, walkers would be trudging through two feet of snow at least.

I remember when I worked for a company called Stream several years ago when the nasty unbelievably bad snow and ice storm saw the police issuing a statement against all non essential travel and the roads were dicey as all hell. The company actually sent out an email to the whole floor acknowledging the police warning and insisting that despite it, everyone had better show up tomorrow no matter what for another typical ho-hum day and anyone missing or even showing up a few minutes late would face "double" the normal disciplinary action for said offenses. Great company.

I really have to laugh at how Floria goes completely nuts and shuts everything down from a single INCH of snow.

There is a storm in NY?

My package is currently in a USPS processing station in NY and I am wondering if that is the reason why it is not moving.

Anyone know if this "storm" is the reason for the delays?

It could be, local news reports state that a ton of flights are cancelled. I've never seen upstate NY go this crazy over a small storm...at a possible amount of 14 inches it's not even what is considered a large sized nor-eastern. I'm really curious as to why this is getting so hyped. I guess maybe the timing of it. It will be interesting to see if Cuomo made the right call by declaring it a state of emergency.

Thruway is closed, and Cuomo is saying that the LIE might even get shut down, glad I'm not down there tomorrow.

Ah ok. Gives me a sigh of relief knowing there is a reason why my package is at the same facility for two days straight.

I hope the storm clear off soon though.
