anyone have their nostril cauterized?

My right nostril has been bleeding a lot lately, so thinking about getting it done. Does it hurt? Generally covered (100%?) by insurance?

Just do it yourself. Get some topical novacain, numb the inside, maybe get hammered a bit, and then use a soldering iron.

I knew a girl who had it done in elementary school. She still had nose bleeds once in awhile, but she said it didn't hurt to have it cauterized.

I knew those stupid soldering iron jokes were coming...

We couldn't resist being smartasses. To be honest, I've never heard of this procedure before.

My friend had it done when he was younger. It worked, unfortunately he lost most of his sense of smell, thus his can't taste a lot of things either which kind of sucks IMO...

I get nose bleeds almost everyday depending on the time of year but I haven't had it done yet. I probably should have it done but I keep putting it off. My dad had it done when he was a kid. It kind of worked but he still gets nose bleeds every now and then.

I had my nose cauterized thee different times as a child. I had sever nose bleeds. Two of the times they were about to start transfusions. THose two times it was done with the electrical buring thing they stuck up my nose. The last time, they used these silver nitrate sticks. If you have the option do the silver nitrate sticks.

How old are you? I had almost nightly nose bleeds the first half of high school, but I was growing very rapidly during that time so that's a potential cause.

I get nosebleeds ever now and then so I ended up going to an Ear/Nose/Throat Doctor. He ended up telling me that cauterizing my nose was not possible at the time unless I happened to get a bleeder that wouldn't stop. It turns out that I have a couple of blood vessels near the surface and so he just said to try and keep my nose moist by using that Ayr (sp?) nasal gel or spray.

My nose is invincible. I've run into a wall (don't ask) and been punched hard, as well as many other incidents, and have never had a nosebleed.
