What are you talking about soldering for? Unless Sunbeam changed the design there is no need to solder anytjhing to change the LEDs. I know, I did it on both my Sunbeams. They plug in and unplug with almost no effort. To do both mine took less than 5 minutes. It took longer to remove them from the cases they were in than it did to replace the 8 (total) LEDs.I think some have pull the leds back so they aren't sticking out so far. Otherwise, you'll have to mess with unsoldering resistors and replacing them with different ones. You could also get different leds and solder them in too. (with a lower output rating... )
It would be just easiest to pull them back away from the front panel... 🙂
*edit* that review actually says to pull them back... that's probably where I heard/read it... LOL...
