Anyone have the Sony D-F200 CD Walkman? How do you like it?

I'm looking at the Aiwa XP-SR321 which is a nice sport model with an AM/FM tuner, behind-the-head headphones, and a carrying case. Any reason not to get it (if I can find a store that carries it)?

I've found that Best Buy, Circuit City and Fry's electronics have the best selection of portable CD Players.

Recently my wife wanted a CD player, I was torn between an "ok" $50 CD player or a decked out $100-$200 CD Player, of course I went for the latter since it was a Sony, long battery life, and it came with an AM/FM radio. We purchased our Sony CD Player with AM/FM tuner for $89 from Circuit City B&M, bought a 2 year extended warranty for $13 just in case our CD Player accidentally breaks

Aiwa makes good electronics but I would also strongly consider Panasonic and Sony. Although I don't have a lot of confidence in Phillips they seem to have several models which offer a lot of bang for your buck including a nice model at CostCo B&M for $65.

I'm looking for a $75-$100 CD player with an AM/FM tuner. Does anyone have any models to suggest?

Well this is weird I searched Google.com by the model number Sony D-FJ61 and found quite a few hits but they were all PURPLE CD Players where as my wife's is a nice silver color.

I'm not sure how much of a concern price is but I saw a nice all around Panasonic CD Player w/ AM FM tuner for $59.99 at my local Fry's B&M, sorry but I don't know the model number.

Ugh, Aiwa sucks- I don't know of 1 good sound-quality product they make. They target teenagers and college students looking for their first stereo. Blech. If you're going to get a portable CD player, I have had absolutely amazing results in sound quality, performance, and reliability with Sony Discmans (Discmen?), now called CD Walkmans (Walkmen? dangit!).

Sony Discman + Grado Labs headphones = PORTABLE BLISS. :Q

No, don't get Panasonic- they are on the same level Aiwa is in the portable CD player segment. I borrowed my sister's Panasonic on a car trip once when I accidentally forgot my Sony, and I just gave it back to her. Amazingly bland sound. Maybe they got better since then (2 years ago), but Sony has always been the best, IMHO.

If you dont want to spend too much money on a Sony, look in to a Phillips. I've had 2 of them and its been working without any skips or problems for over an year. I like the fully transparent lid.

IMO, 100+ bucks is way too much for a CD player. For a bit more, I can buy a MP3 player.

I'll second the Philips players- my Dad has one and it sounds a heckuva lot better than a Panasonic. Still not as good as a Sony though.

RossMAN does your wife's player take NiMH batteries? In the CNet specs for it, it says that it takes NiCd batteries.

SSP do any of the cheap ~$100 MP3/CD players have a radio too? Since I wouldn't be using the MP3 feature much I figure it's a better ides to get a good CD player than a cheap MP3/CD player.

Sukhoi - Good question. Yes it does accept NiMH's, we use Panasonic 1600 mAH's which we purchased from CostCo for $20 after $5 MIR which included 2 AAA's, 6 AA's and 3 hour recharger.

The FM reception is crystal clear and the battery life is impressive.

Opps... didnt pick up the AM/FM part from the original post. To answer your question, there are some close to that price range but I wouldnt really go for it, cause the quality is piss poor, usually. I thought you just wanted a CD player, so thats why I suggested a MP3 player, cause its a lot easier/faster to copy the MP3's then to burn the CD.

My wife and I considered an MP3 compatible CD Player at first but most of them were costly and didn't include an AM/FM tuner.

Fortunately though my wife's Sony D-FJ61 reads CD-R discs without any problems, accepts NiMH's, and has a great AM/FM tuner. It was a winner.

It looks like there is a pretty good chance I'll be buying the D-FJ61. Sony has a factory store at the outlet mall I'm going to on Monday so I'll see if they happen to have any cheap refurbished D-FJ61s.

eh well i remember a uc davis prof wrote up a webpage on the quality of components in panasonic discmen compared to sony. panasonic won by a mile, this was a bit over a year ago though

still, my 3 generations of panasonics all still run

If I get a Sony I think I'm leaning toward the D-FJ65. It's the same as the D-FJ61 except it has sport behind-the-head headphones and a remote, both of which would be very nice.

heh just remember the included headphones are generally pos. even 20 dollar headphones you can buy separately can easily top them truely pathetic.

yeah, be sure to get some good headphones, headphones that are packaged with cd players suck. personally i have the sennheiser mx500 earbuds, they sound great. i got them at www.headphone.com, cost about $25 after shipping. grados are good too.

Ok, I think I'll look into some replacement headphones.

I can't decide if I should get clip-on headphones, or behind-the-ear. Any opinions on either? I wear glasses if it matters.
