Anyone have the new Inspiron 630 or xps notebook?

It's not so hard. Just look at the Lenovo Thinkpad Z60t. 14" widescreen, 4.5 lbs, and it has a very strong magnesium frame with a CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer) casing, all for a fairly reasonable price.

Chances are the Dell will be cheaper, though.

it is hard...its always one thing or the other....no dedicated video...ridiculous price...

trying to find a value balanced 14widescreen laptop is difficult

You should give us a bit more information about what it is that you're after, then. So you want dedicated video? What's your price range?

Z60t's aren't that expensive, have you looked? There's a thread on FatWallet with some REALLY cheap Thinkpads, including the Z60t.

Otherwise I like the HP dv1000/L2000 series. Not as light as the Z60t, but well built and cheap. I've not used the Dell XPS M140, but it should be ok; I'd just be prepared to return it if it doesn't meet your stringent specifications of perfect and cheap.

The 14" XPS only has integrated graphics.

I ordered a 630M during a special sale that gave me $300 off $1300 and an additianal 10% off of the whole thing. I have had the I6000 and still have I 9300, and this is basically the same machine in a smaller case. Got the bright screen, 8 cell battery, 7200 rpm drive and 1 GB with 1.86GHz processor, and I love the speed - also the (big) battery promises about 6 (!!!!!!!!!) hours - I have not tried it all the way but I am very positively impressed so far
