anyone have the fanatec wheel for 360

does anyone have the fanatec wheel? i'm thinking about getting the one for pc/360... problem is i don't really have space in my apartment for a dedicated chair. how well does it work on a lap? i might try to build a folding stand of some sort...

also i recall hearing about some issues with the wheel, but i can't recall what they were...anything I should know?

thanks,
Vivan

on your lap? seriously?

impossible. even on a table you'd have issues. it needs to be hard mounted to something sturdy, preferably with the shifter hard mounted as well (the shifter rails suck). and the pedals WILL move if not secured to something.

I have it.

No way to use it in your lap. Clamped to a table with their clamp that you have to purchase separately ... maybe. Hard mounted to a wheel stand or a chair would be best.

The wheelstand would be the best and easiest thing as it folds and can be stored in closet.

my wheel came with a table clamp. but it doesn't work worth a damn, the back of the wheel will lift. pretty much has to be bolted to something.

my advice to anyone looking at the MS wheel is the same- save your money and use a controller. that thing is junk.

that's what i've heard.

are the clubsport pedals really worth 200 bucks on the fanatec? the normal ones look pretty decent...

It's not too bad, not Logitech G25 quality though. I picked mine up like new for $46 a while ago though.

I was going to post a separate thread about this, but what the hey

How do you like it for Forza 3 and how are the logistics of mounting/using it? I'm getting less happy with the controller, but am perfectly competent with it.

I've used it in FM3 a few times, it works well, but honestly I'm faster with a controller. I used to use a wheel in FM2 exclusively but never took the time to get good with it and found that for me the controller worked better.

Here's the thing, if you can mount the wheel to something I'm sure it's much better. Sitting in your lap it sucks (the same would be true with any wheel). I don't really have any tables that are the proper height to clamp it to (it comes with a clamp).

blowfish (GCS), arby (getbush), and Lotheron all use/have previously used the MS wheel at one time or another and all three are are much faster than I. blowfish had one or two of 'em die on him (I had one go bad when I dropped one on the floor and it forever was stuck at full lock right) but I think that Lotheron and arby's haven't given them any issues. Although Loth's is on the way out as he's used it to death.

It's not the same build quality as a Logitech but I really don't like/trust Fanatec (the first batch of 911 Turbo S wheels they shipped out were freaking beta test products without all the features...that's just shady!!). blowfish's Turbo S wheel was knocked on the floor and broke, so I'm not particularly inclined to say it's sturdier than the MS wheel.

I see. Thanks for the feedback. I guess I was just hoping the less sensitive range of input would help me a little more consistent.

Like I say, if you don't abuse it neither should break on you, and I there's plenty of VERY good racers using the MS wheel.

well, for $50, why not.

but no way i'd recommend it at 100+.

OP, the standard pedals are pretty nice. clutch and brake feel really good. gas is a little limp, but not terribly so.

if you insist on playing while wearing shoes, the clubsports might be worth it. the standards work best with socks.

But missing parts, shipping incomplete products, and crappy CS would make me steer away.

Rumor has it (but who knows if it's true) that Logitech is working on a new wheel similar to the G27 that will be Xbox 360 compatible. Personally I won't touch the Fanatec, I'd consider dropping $250 for a Logitech wheel though.

i recall hearing about some fanatec-msft deal that made it impossible for logitech to make a 360 wheel...if they are indeed making one i would definitely take that over the fanatec though, if it has equivalent features...

where did you even hear a rumor about logitech making a wheel? last i knew, logitech themselves had said that MS would not allow them to license the tech, period.

i recall that as well. i hope msft reconsiders considering the bad experiences some people seem to have had with fanatec.

The Logitech wheel for the 360 rumor has been going on for since the platform was released. I'm not holding my breath.

That being said, I'd buy one as soon as it was released if it was G27 quality.

Not going to happen 🙁 Posted this year...

I did, and this is the most I can say on this topic:

I would like to just point out to the thread the following facts as a final, definitive answer:

To make a wheel for a platform requires the cooperation of many companies. That being said, we like selling products, and would always like to sell more products to new markets. Unfortunately, not all of the requirements lined up, and we were unable to pursue this product.
