i posted this in software but seems a little slow there... hoping the sheer volume of peeps in OT might yield more responses :)

here is my deal... i have windows 2000 on a partition of drive a. i would like to switch over to drive b. i tried to use ghost 2003 to clone the partition, but when i boot to drive b... after i log in, i get an error telling me that my paging file does not exist, or is too small. it gives me some tips about how to correct this, but right after i click "OK" (which happens to be the only option), i get tossed back to the login prompt. this goes on in an endless cycle. i checked out the manual and it doesn't seem to have any suggestions to correct this. someone suggested i boot to a recovery console and delete the paging file. i tried this, but i am still having the same problem. has anyone been able to successfully clone their win2k boot partition from one drive to another? if so, what software did u use? it seems like ghost 2003 is a no go for my situation :(

I have done it countless times using Maxblast software or WD's software depending on which brand HD I was using.

yeah i was thinking about using data lifeguard to do it. but for me... drive a is a maxtor and drive b is a wd. u think the software will play nice with hd's manufacturered by other companies?

Yes. They will work fine, but you have to use the WD Utility because it verifies the newest HD must be of the software brand.

Yes. It doesn't cure doubleposting though. :p

NB - We used PowerQuest DriveImage at work

It sounds like you had the pagefile set to another drive or partition before running ghost and now that disk or partition is no longer present. If this is the case, can you boot into safe mode and move your swap file over to the system drive.

exactly, i don't think this has anything to do with your imaging software

we also use the powerquest product to image windows 2000 server and winXP boxes

do what narse77 says, or just fix the swap and then make a new image (it sounds like you still have the original drive/setup in existance)

I think so. For example, I took my IBM drive and ghosted it to a WD. Then I cleared the IBM (just using fdisk) and booted from the WD without problem. I'm still booting from it today, and this was in the end of December...

when u say "just fix the swap"... i'm not exactly sure i know what u mean. u mean "fix the swap" from my drive a (the drive to be cloned), or "fix the swap" from drive b (the new drive)? right now, i can still boot into drive a, but drive b gives me the endless loops of logging in... paging file error... logging in.... paging file error... etc.

Spanky have you tried booting to drive b in safe mode? That should allow you to log on, right click on My Computer, Go to Properties, Advanced Tab, Performance Options, Change button, then change the paging file size to whatever you want and put it on drive b for now. You should be able to do this without going in to safe mode though. Never seen Win2k kick you back out to the log on screen.

I've had no problems doing this with Ghost 2001 at work.

On your drive a win2k where was your paging file? C:? D:? Most likely (as stated above) it was on a partition that no longer exists in the new drive b win2k. The paging file error is normal if this is the case and Ghost did it's job... you just have to make a new paging file (or at least point it to the proper location).

i just check and my paging file is on C:
before i ghosted, the list of drives look like this:

c: [MAX40A]
d: [MAX40B]
e: [WD30A]
f: [WD30B]

i am fairly certain the paging file was on C:, as i have not changed anything since. the paging file is supposed to be on C: before i start ghosting right?
