A few months ago I got the 55A2000, which is one of Sony's SXRD (LCoS) models. I'm wondering just how dark the blacks really should be. In a dark room, a picture with a lot of black looks more like a dark gray. It's dark, but not nearly as much as on a CRT, and some people have claimed that the blacks on these sets are just as good as on a CRT. Whether this is true or not I don't know, given that projectors don't have as good contrast ratios as CRTs. I've literally tried every setting on the TV to fix it though. Maybe I'm just being too hopeful and it's already as good as it will get?

From what I understand, blacks on an SXRD aren't as good as a CRT or a plasma, but they're better than an LCD. I don't actually own one, though.

You ought to calibrate with a DVD. Or at least use some settings as a base (I heard the settings on the CNET website aren't bad).

I have the first gen SXRD (XBR1) and I'm pefectly happy with the black levels. But then I calibrated mine with a calibration dvd first. Watched Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and that movie had plenty of blacks and dark scenes and the blacks was almost the same darkness at the black bezel around the edge.

Just get it properly calibrated and you will not be disappointed with the PQ on these sets.

Thx for the tips, I'll have to try calibrating then. jtvang125, are you watching in a dark room or is there still some ambient light?
