Anyone have recent experience with ATI warranty claims?

Looks like my X800XT AIW is dying. I'm starting to get artifacts big time after heavy gaming and even after a cold start I sometimes get gray dashed lines all through the screen during POST and the same lines in a nice purple shade while WINXP is loading up. Also, I've never OC'd the card nor physically changed it.

I bought the card retail from ATI.Com last August so it should be covered under warranty. I bought 3 X800XT cards in the summer of 05 (2 cards) and 06 (1 card) and am pretty sure ATI advertised the cards with 3 year warranties.

If they can't replace/repair the card, I feel justified in asking for at least an X1950 Pro (or better) since I'd be giving up the AIW functions and the X1950 Pro is not too much better in performance than my X800XT (with low settings of AA and AF).

I surely will not settle for a X1650/X2600 series since they perform below my X800XT (with AA/AF enabled).

Does the above seem correct/fair to you peeps?

While I've never RMA'd with ATI, I have with BFG and eVGA and they usually give you a fair trade-up if they can't RMA you back the same card.

For example, I RMA'd a FX5900Ultra and got a 6800GT OC and that was 6 months ago.

But in your case, you have an AIW card. If its a PCI-e card then you might luck out and get an x1800 or x1900 AIW card. IF you're using an AGP card, then... that's a different story. In anycase, it's no use talking it over on the forums. Just RMA it or talk to a rep to get a straight answer.

If they can't RMA a fair replacement, you might just get your money back. Happened before when I RMA'd an old ass P3 CPU.

The card has a 3 year warranty. They legally have to make good on at least that. He says it has been 1 year.

Out of warranty means no longer covered under the terms.

X1950Pro pwns the X800xt, the X1650xt would be fair, it equals your card and is newer.

Good luck trying to get an X1950 or higher.

According to Tom's Hardware "VGA" charts for "all games", the X800XT scores 932 and the X1650XT scores 883 so IMO, this card would not be a fair replacement. Plus I'd be losing the AIW aspects of the card which is easily worth another $50-$75 (or, a a card or 2 "up the chart" in raw performance).

I've gotten an RMA number from ATI/AMD and will let you peeps know how things turn out.

I'll also tell ATI/AMD I can use either PCI-E or AGP, since my mobo has both slots. Best to be flexible:)
