anyone have problems install Nero 5.5.6.4 or any other version on a Plextor 241040a

Hello,

This is the 2nd 241040a I have installed....I have another system that has the Nero 5.5.6.4 and the same model drive running with no problems... i've only tried the LSI aspi drivers... I don't remember having this problem with the other drive, even though I installed it about 2 months ago...

Well, no matter what the problem is you should try updating your firmware. OS updates help sometimes as well.

nope, no problems here. at least i don't think there are any. been working great so far. i have stuff to burn when i back. then we'll see if any problems arise.

I had a problem with it. I had jsut installed WinXP and gotten a new plextor 241040a. My problem was that when I tried to copy a CD, Nero would freeze as soon as the progress screen would pop up. The way I fixed it was to disable DMA on my CD-ROM drive. After that, it works flawlessly. Sucks though because in Win98, I could use Nero with DM Aenabled on my CD-ROM.

hmm, never tried copying with nero. always used clonecd for that. that's interesting problem. wonder if it's just nero's cd copy feature that does this.

I am running Windows XP Professional and NERO 5.5.6.4 and have had no problems yet. I do use Clone CD to copy cd's.

I should have stated that on my other system I just install nero 5.5.6.4.... and it was detected...but on my new system is is anti'ed out... tonite I will try to install ez-cd creator 5 and see if it reconizes it....I will install the latest firmware upgrades regardless.... Is their a newer version of Nero that corrects these problems ?? I went to Plextor's Webpage and noticed three downloads...

There is a new firmware version for the 2410a drive which I have also. I'm using win xp and have had nothing but trouble no matter whats software I used until I applied the update. Now all works better then ever for me !

Version 1.03 firmware upgrade dated 1/15/02 with lots of win xp fixes here:

Note: In win xp I had to also unistall the 2410a drive in device manager and reinstall after the firmware upgrade.

Also if your interested, there is a Plextor Easy CD Creator version on there websire fo 9.99 which adds win xp compatibility for current owners looks like a nice deal I ordered one myself.

Have you tried a different IDE cable. My buddy had the same problem and he swithed out cables and it started working.

I also had problems using CloneCD with my Plextor 24/10/40a initially. I'd get freezes, etc. Changing DMA didn't help. What did the trick for me was to update the firmware to 1.03...works fine now.
