Link.

My wife is always letting her iphone battery run low. Not sure this will help because she will probably never remember to charge it. Anyway, how exactly does this work?

Do you plug it into the wall/car charger and charge it independently of the phone? Or do you plug it in by itself and then once it's charged you plug it into the iphone and it "transfers" the charge to the phone? Or do you have to leave it attached to the phone as you use it kinda like an external battery???

I already ordered it but was curious if anyone here owns one and what they think of it?

Yes, you charge it independently of the phone. Then when you plug it into the phone, it will charge the phone, or you can continue to use the phone. If you are using the phone, it may still charge a little bit.

NOTE for iPod users: The battery pack blocks the headphone jack while in use. You can not use this battery pack and the iPod simultaneously, due to the orientation of the headphone jack. This is not an issue with the iPhone, which has the headphone jack on the top.
