I've got 2gb in a granitebay board (8inxp). I've been editing alot of movies for my buddies adult webiste. Short of the splatter proof keyboard and monitor, having all that extra memory has really helped with these movies.

Depends what you'll need the ram for like mentioned earlier... If you edit movies every now and then, you may want to think about a little more but usually 512 itself is more than enough. I have 578, with today's OSs, the biggest jump comes going from 128 mb to 192mb and then to 256. For today, 512 is more than enough usually until you start the image and video editing, then its usefull to have a little more

You should look at registered memory. I have to have it for my board. PC2100 512MB-~$150

No, NO, NO!!! Not unless you have a server or workstation class board that can use it. Some consumer level boards will take ECC memory, but they don't get any benefit from the error checking. Registered memory is incompatible with almost all consumer level boards, and it would be a big mistake to try to use it.

Edit: And I only have 512MB of PC/2700 DDR SDRAM. Woe is me, Photoshop runs slow as heck on this thing; I wish I could have 1.5GB of RAM instead - then it would fly. :p

Any more memory upgrades past 1gb is a waste. I have 1gb of PC133 RAM and Windows XP is very happy, and very very fast :.

I'd have to agree. I have 1.5g in my system now, but I really couldn't "feel" the difference over 1gig. I could however feel the difference from 512 to 1024, so adding a stick of 512 would be a good thing.

Yes and you can never ever have enough.

6.02^1023 terabytes would be a small amount in a N3NBA system. Of course we're no longer limited to 0's and 1's at that stage. :)

[Tim Allen Grunt]MORE MEMORY![/Tim Allen Grunt]

Cheers!

Ah, ok. I think that we misunderstood each other. I wasn't recommending he get registered memory. It was more "If you think that's bad, look at what *I* have to buy".

Can't wait for those 1GB modules to come down though...

:)

Im up to 1gb on my main box ... 90% of the time ... I have more than 512MB of free physical memmory.

However, it does make a huge difference in Simcity4
It also makes a difference when multitasking
Its also good if you have lots of stuff going on in the background and game at the same time on the same box.

If you do video editing I do not see why the common consumer needs more than 512mb. I have 1 gig and I will have to admit it IS sweet. I use Vegas Video to edit home movies and 1 gig does the job.
