Anyone have Mac connecting to VPNs?

I am trying to choose a firewall box, preferably using PPTP for the VPN protocol. I have to get Macs to connect to it as well. OS X has a built in PPTP client, which I am using. I am testing on a 3Com box and it connects fine, but it is incredibly slow, even when the 3Com box is on the same network. does anyone have recommendations for firewalls they are using that they know Macs connect to, and hopefully connect to well? Thanks for any help you can offer.
